Middletown South 2, Howell 1

Patrick Corey scored Middletown South's first goal of the season to tie the game in the 46th minute and Gabe Guzman scored the winner in the 71st to deliver the Eagles(1-5, 1-5) their first win of the season, a victory over the Rebels (1-3-1, 1-3-1).

Tyler DiGiovanni opened the scoring in the 24th minute to give Howell a 1-0 lead.

CBA 3, Marlboro 1

Freshman Matt Thorsheim, junior Russell Romano and sophomore John Frycz all scored in the second half and the Colts (4-1, 4-1) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit to beat the Mustangs (1-5, 1-4) for their fourth straight win.

Ben Metzger opened the scoring in the 34th minute for Marlboro.

No. 7 Freehold Twp. 2, No. 3 Colts Neck 1

Brian Dziobak set up two goals in the first nine minutes with headers off throw-ins and the Patriots (5-2, 4-2) handed the Cougars (3-1-1, 3-1-1) their first loss of the season. Tim O'Donnell headed in a Dziobak flick in the fifth minute and sophomore Mark Fasano did the same in the ninth to stake Freehold Township to a 2-0 lead.

The Cougar cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Rob Berdel in the first two minutes of the second half.

No. 4 Manalapan 3, Middletown North 0

Adam Weisberger set up Mason Chin's goal five minutes into the game and scored one of his own in the 51st minute to spark the Braves (5-0, 5-0) to a win over the Lions (1-4, 1-4), their fifth straight to open the season.

Ryan  Hammer added a goal in the 60th minute and sophomore Matt Rosenberg earned a shutout in his first start to make it five straight games in which the Braves have not allowed a goal.

 

Class A Central

No. 8 Holmdel 4, St. John Vianney 1

Gino D'Agostino scored two goals and Jason Kyriacou and Jack Flanagan each added a goal and an assist as the Hornets (6-1, 5-1) handled the Lancers (2-4, 1-4). Eric D'Aleo also had two assists for Holmdel, while Chris Loney scored the lone St. John Vianney goal.

No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 5, Monmouth 0

Mike Slutz scored two goals and an assist in the first half alone and the Bulldogs (5-0-1, 4-0-1) rolled to a win over the Falcons (0-6, 0-5). Pete Martin also added a goal and an assist for Rumson, while Eamon Kitson and Kieran Doherty each scored a goal in the win.

Red Bank Catholic 1, Raritan 0

Chris Cesario scored a goal in the first half and goalkeeper Nick Schweizer and the Caseys (4-2, 3-2) made it stand up in a win over the Rockets (4-2-1, 2-2-1).

 

Class B North

Neptune 2, No. 9 Long Branch 1

Stevenly Joseph scored in the 18th minute and Vinny Tremarco added a goal a minute before halftime to get the Scarlet Fliers (4-5, 2-3) going and Neptune held on to hand the Green Wave (2-3-2, 1-2-2) its third straight loss.

Fabio DeSousa scored the lone Long Branch goal in the 68th minute, his fifth goal of the season.

Wall 2, Freehold 1

Connor Fry scored off a pass from Cameron Wenz in the 66th minute to break a 1-1 tie and help the Crimson Knights (4-1-2, 2-1-2) a three-game winless streak with a win over the Colonials (2-4-1, 2-2-1). Wenz also scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute to open the scoring.

Dom Matteo scored four minutes before halftime to pull Freehold even.

No. 1 Ocean 2, No. 10 Matawan 0

Justin Silverberg scored a goal and assisted Wadneson Alexis' seventh goal of the season as the Spartans (6-0-1, 4-0-1) remained unbeaten by handing the Huskies (3-3, 3-3) their second straight loss.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 4, Manchester 0

Junior Rabi Orellana recorded a hat trick within the first 30 minutes and the Wildcats (1-5, 1-4) cruised to their first win of the season by beating the Hawks (1-7, 1-5). Paul Cardillo added a second-half penalty kick to cap the scoring.
