Class A North

No. 4 Freehold Twp. 4, Middletown South 2

Kyle Czajkowski scored the game-winning goal in the 78th to break a 2-2 tie and Mike Maltese added the second of his two goals in the 79th to cap a Patriots (1-0, 1-0) win over the Eagles (0-3, 0-1).

Adrian Barajas assisted the winner by Czajkowski and Czajkowski also assisted both of Maltese's goals, the first of which came in the 10th minute to tie the game at 1. Senior Tim O'Donnell scored off a Nick Facendo pass in the 18th minute to give Freehold Township a 2-1 lead.

Senior Hunter Davey opened the scoring for Middletown South in the seventh minute off a pass from senior Shane Poli and the Eagles tied the game in the 42nd on a goal by junior Mike Britt with a set-up from sophomore Blake Finlayson.

No. 3 CBA 3, Middletown North 1

Russell Romano, Tom Lozowski and Deven Bhattachyra each scored a goal and the Colts (2-0, 2-0) rolled to their second straight win to open the season by topping the Lions (0-2, 0-1). Sophomore Matt Thorsheim assisted Romano's goal in the 11th minute to open the scoring and Lozowski scored the deciding goal in the 55th.

Jordan Robinson broke up the shutout with a goal in the 75th minute to cap the scoring.

 

Class A Central

St. John Vianney 2, Raritan 1

Austin Schlessinger and Kyle Tuschmann each scored first-half goals and the Lancers (1-0, 1-0) held off the Rockets (1-1, 0-1) to win their opener. Alex Politi and Davi Eugenio each had an assist for St. John Vianney.

Monmouth 2, Rumson-Fair Haven 1

Bobby Riordan scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute and the Falcons (3-0, 1-0) beat the Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1) to win their third straight to open the season. Matt Doucette assisted the winning goal and also set up Monmouth's first goal, scored by Joel Burgos.

No. 5 Holmdel 1, Matawan 0

Junior Rob Ceriello scored the game's lone goal off a pass from sophomore Brendan Wall in the 32nd minute and the Hornets (1-1, 1-0) edged the Huskies (1-1, 0-1) for their first win of the season. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Marchiano preserved a scoreless tie in the early going by saving a breakaway attempt by Matawan senior striker Alex Cella.

 

Class B North

No. 2 Wall 1, Colts Neck 0

Senior Brendan Barcas scored 1:40 into the second half off a pas from senior Zach Hetzel and the Crimson Knights (1-1, 1-0) bounced back from an opening-night loss to Toms River North by topping the Cougars (0-2, 0-1) in a B North game.

Ocean 3, Red Bank Catholic 2

Junior Ryan Wells scored the equalizer in the 76th minute and sophomore Cosimo Franze scored the winner in the 79th, his first career varsity goal that propelled the Spartans (1-1, 1-0) to a comeback win over the Caseys (0-1, 0-1).

Teddy Eugenis opened the scoring for Ocean in the eight minute before Red Bank Catholic evened the match on a 45-yard direct kick by Bryan Andrew. The Caseys then took the lead when senior Chris Cesario played a combination with senior Kevin Davey and finished for the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute.

No. 6 Red Bank 1, Neptune 0

Justin Gilson scored the lone goal less than four minutes into the match off a pass from Dylan Fogerty and the Bucs (2-0, 1-0) won their second straight to open the season by beating the Scarlet Fliers (1-2, 0-1).

 

Class B South

Point Boro 3, Barnegat 1

Senior Dan Nobbs scored two goals - one in the third minute and another in the 74th - to bookend the Point Boro scoring and help lead the Panthers (1-0, 1-0) to a season-opening win over the Bengals (0-3, 0-1).

Barnegat senior Austin Reynolds tied the score at 1 with a goal in the 33rd minute, but junior Mason Weingarter gave Point Boro the lead right back with a goal in the 34th.

 

Non-Division

No. 10 Brick Memorial 3, Howell 1

Senior Kevin Simek scored two goals and dished out an assist to senior Kevin Duffy and the Mustangs (2-0) stormed out to a three-goal lead in the first half and held on to beat the Rebels (0-2). Senior Bryan Malerba assisted both goals by Simek, which came 10 minutes apart in the 23rd and 33rd minutes. Duffy opened the scoring five minutes into the match.

Brandon Downey scored the lone Howell goal in the 77th minute off a pass from Joe Masino.
