Sophomore David Anderson scored off a pass from classmate Nick Moreno in the 28th minute and the Mariners (2-0) topped the Panthers (0-3) to follow up their opening-night overtime win over No. 3 Freehold Township with another win.

Senior Conor Creighton scored two goals in the second half and the Blue Devils (1-1-1) rallied to salvage a draw with the Green Dragons (0-1-1).

No. 3 Freehold Twp. 5, St. John Vianney 0

Senior Bennett Messinger scored two goals and assisted another to lead the Patriots (1-2) to a rout of the Lancers (0-3) for their first win of the season.

Junior Zach Orrico also scored two goals, senior Nick Schulman scored the other and juniors Joe Lardaro and Adam Havens each added two assists for Freehold Township.

Toms River East 4, Howell 2

Senior Dane Bodziak scored two goals and assisted another to lead the Raiders (2-0) past the Rebels (1-1) for their second straight win to open the year.

Junior Alex Heid added a goal and two assists and junior Taylor Cleven scored a goal as well for Toms River East.

Neptune 6, Manchester 1

Senior Kyle Schembri recorded a hat trick and assisted two more goals to lead the Scarlet Fliers (3-0) past the Hawks (1-1) for their third straight win to open the season.

Senior Louis Pennington scored two goals of his own and senior Jett Tinik accounted for the sixth Neptune goal while also contributing an assist. Senior Marvin Garcia also dished out a pair of assists in the win.

Middletown North 2, Raritan 1

Junior Alex Perez and Aidan Cardella each scored a goal and the Lions (3-0) hung on to beat the Rockets (1-1) for their third straight win to open the season.

No. 6 Wall 2, St. Rose 0

Junior Jake Pepe scored off a set-up from classmate Sean Southwell in the 18th minute and senior Jack Gotsch added another goal in the second half as the Crimson Knights (2-0) blanked the Purple Roses (1-1) under the lights at Wall Municipal Complex.

Junior Shane Borenius headed in a cross by senior Joe Costa in the fourth minute and senior Luke Pascarella later added a penalty kick in the 62nd as the Colts (1-0) blanked the defending Group IV champion Minutemen (1-1) in a battle between defending state champions.
