Junior Marcelo Colonna scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute and the Huskies (2-1) battled their way past the Rockets (0-4).

Junior Ryan Leonard assisted Colonna's winner and also set up the first goal of the game, which sophomore Andre Wells put away in the first half.

Senior Zach May pulled Raritan even with a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

No. 5 Howell 2, Brick 0

Junior Mike Anello scored off a pass from senior Dylan Dougher and the Rebels (2-1) later added an own goal to seal a win over the Green Dragons (2-3).

Senior goalkeeper Shane McBride earned the shutout in his first game of the season after sitting two games as a result of a red card levied against him in the final game of 2017.

No. 1 Holmdel 3, Colts Neck 0

Junior Jack Giamanco and senior Jack Russo scored 39 seconds apart in the final 3:20 of the first half and the Hornets (3-0) overcame the loss of reigning Shore Sports Network Player of the year Anthony Arena to blank the Cougars (1-1).

Arena limped off with a left hamstring injury in the 23rd minute and did not return.

Senior Ryan Ferguson scored the final goal in the 52nd and also assisted the opening goal by Giamanco. Senior Pete Vassilakos hurled a long throw to the near post, where Ferguson flicked a header to Giamanco, who finished at the far post.

Just 39 seconds after the game's first goal, Holmdel's outside backs connected for the first of two insurance goals. Junior Mark Walier played a diagonal cross to the far right post and Russo headed it out of the air and in for the 2-0 lead.

Ferguson's goal was also a header, with senior Mark McStay playing the ball in the air from the left side out corner kick that Holmdel played short.

No. 7 Freehold Boro 3, Point Boro 0

Junior Isaac Ball opened the scoring in the 14th minute with his third goal in three games and the Colonials (3-1) pulled away to beat the Panthers (0-5) for their third straight win.

Senior Lucas Bruckmann extended the Freehold lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute off a pass from junior Zack Wozniak and senior Cameron Elslager capped the scoring in the 63rd off a feed from Cesar Velazquez.

Long Branch 2, Southern 1 (OT)

Senior Stiviny Silva scored his Shore-Conference-leading seventh goal in the first minute of overtime and the Green Wave (3-2) dealt the Rams (4-1) their first loss of the season in come-from-behind fashion.

Senior Jose Herrera assisted the winner by Silva, who also scored the equalizer in the 68th minute for his sixth goal of the year.

Senior Dylan Blauvelt converted a penalty kick to give Southern the game's first lead early in the second half.

No. 10 Toms River North 0, Marlboro 0

Middletown South 5, Red Bank Catholic 0

Junior Danny Minze scored two goals and assisted another to help pace the Eagles (1-3) to a win over the Caseys (1-2) for their first victory of the season.

Senior Jonathan Santos dished out three assists for Middletown South and Tyler Jerome, Nick Cataneo and Sean Liner each added a goal in the win.

Saturday's game was the first time this season Middletown South faced an opponent that is not ranked in the latest Shore Sports Network Top 10. The Eagles opened with a 4-0 loss to No. 1 Holmdel, followed by losses to No. 3 Ocean and No. 7 Freehold Boro. All three were also ranked to open the season.

St. Rose 2, Central 1

Sophomore Christian Bodine sent the game to overtime with the equalizer in the 76th minute and ended it in the third minute of overtime to carry the Purple Roses (3-1) to a comeback win over the Golden Eagles (0-4).

Senior Eric Pacheco gave Central the 1-0 lead with a goal in the 48th minute off an assist from senior Olu Ogunyinka.

 

Non-Conference

Manalapan 0, Bridgewater-Raritan 0

After allowing 14 goals in its first three games, the Braves went toe-to-toe with the team ranked No. 12 in the state to open the season, according to NJ.com, and earned the scoreless draw.

Luke Nelson earned his first career shutout in goal with the Braves back line of Ryan Caruso, Ryan Brendsi, Sam Berkman and Michael Avnet providing protection.
