Junior Adam Haff broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute and sophomore David Tuschmann notched the clincher in the 79th as the Cougars (5-1) handed the Jaguars (8-1) their first loss of the season.

Haff took a pass from junior Jake Gershon, penetrated the 18-yard box and ripped an 18-yard shot to the side netting for the game's first goal.

Tuschmann capped the win by running down a pass from sophomore Jayson DeCarvalho and sliding it past charging goalkeeper Charlie Harrison for the finish.

Senior goalkeeper Dylan Jacobs recorded his fifth shutout in six games.

Rumson-Fair Haven 2, No. 7 Freehold Twp. 1

Sophomore Luke Pentikis connected on a direct kick in the 67th minute for his second game-winning, free-kick goal in as many games and the Bulldogs (3-4) rallied from an early one-goal deficit to upend the Patriots (4-4).

Junior Zach Orrico finished off a pass from senior Bennett Messinger in the first minute of action to stake Freehold Township to an early 1-0 lead.

Rumson responded in the sixth when senior Andrew Singleton equalized off a pass from Pentikis.

Howell 4, St. Rose 0

Senior Kyle Lindemann scored two goals in two minutes and the Rebels (2-7) scored four times in the second half to beat the Purple Roses (3-4-1) and snap a seven-game skid.

Senior Mike Anello broke a deadlock with a goal in the 50th off a pass from senior Jared Rubman and senior Lucas Newsholme made it 2-0 in the 58th off the first of three assists by Kris Maza.

Neptune 5, Ranney 0

Seniors Kyle Schembri and Ryan Gannon scored two goals each as the Scarlet Fliers (6-3) blanked the Panthers (2-4).

Senior Louis Pennington added a goal and an assist and junior Cosme Fierro dished out two assists for Neptune.

No. 2 Marlboro 7, Red Bank Catholic 1

Senior Mitchell Katsman pumped in a hat trick and also picked up an assist as the Mustangs (8-0) rolled to a win over the Caseys (1-7) - their eighth straight to open the season.

Mike Steinberg, Bryce Strumaier, Max Shushkovsky and Cooper Laitman each added a goal and senior Dan Risin dished out a pair of assists for Marlboro.

Point Beach 2, Lakewood 0

Junior Owen Marcoux scored two goals and the Garnet Gulls (5-3) and sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Aportela shut out the Piners (0-7).

Shore 4, St. John Vianney 1

Senior Conor Creighton and sophomore Chris Hazel each scored two goals and the Blue Devils (2-5-1) put away the Lancers (1-7-1).

Raritan 3, Keyport 0

Senior Joe Seber scored a goal and assisted another to lead the Rockets (4-3) to a shutout win over the Red Raiders (2-4).

Junior Hunter Amoedo and senior Connor Smith each added a goal for Raritan.

Red Bank 3, Mater Dei Prep 0

Junior Adam Tladelpa, senior Aden Castell and freshman James Castell each scored a goal and the Bucs (3-4) blanked the Seraphs (1-3-1) to give senior goalkeeper Sebastian Carroll the clean sheet.

Long Branch 6, Ocean 2

Senior Patrick O'Dwyer exploded for five goals and the Green Wave broke open a 2-2 game with four unanswered goals over the final 20 minutes to beat the Spartans.

Senior Eryck Lazo also scored for Long Branch.

Sophomores Michael Reid and Aidan Tisony scored the two Ocean goals to even up the game at 2-2 before Long Branch pulled away.

No. 1 Holmdel 4, Matawan 1

Junior Tomas Zolofra scored the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute and added a second in the 79th to help the Hornets (9-0) beat the Huskies (4-3-1), win their ninth straight to open the year and cap their 45th consecutive game without a loss.

Matawan jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by senior Chris Dietrich in the eighth minute before Holmdel senior Jason Ng responded with the equalizer in the 16th off a pass from senior Eric Hinds.

Junior Connor Hinds added an insurance goal in the 73rd before Zolofra put the game away with 1:50 left.

No. 6 Wall 1, Manasquan 0

Senior Thomas Perry scored off a pass from junior Nico DellaPietro in the second minute and the Wall (6-2) defense held firm along with junior goalkeeper Sebastian Campanile to shut out the Warriors (3-4).

Middletown South 2, No. 9 Middletown North 1

Senior Danny Minze buried a one-timed volley from the top of the 18-yard box with less than one second remaining in regulation and the Eagles (5-3-1) stunned the Lions (6-3) with a finish to remember.

Middletown North junior goalkeeper Alex Bogues made a double-save with 12 seconds remaining but Middletown South had one more chance to send the ball into the box. Bogues batted the ball away from the goal, but it carried right to Minze, who squared up a shot and dipped it just under the crossbar as the clock read 0.1 seconds remaining.

Bogues saved 11 shots and the first goal he conceded was an own goal off a redirected shot by Middletown South junior Matt Glynn in the 45th minute. Middletown South outshot Middletown North, 23-8, overall and 17-3 in the second half.

The Lions made one of those three shots count, however, when junior Aiden Cardella fired a left-footed strike into the right side netting off a lay-off from junior Alex Perez.

 

Non-Conference

No. 5 Southern 4, Shawnee 0

Junior Brandon Notte scored two goals and assisted another to help the Rams (6-0-1) score a strong non-conference win over the Renegades (5-2-1).

Junior Kevin Kiernan added his 10th goal of the season and junior Ryan Leavitt accounted for the other Southern goal.
