Junior Mike Romero Vargas converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute and the Colonials (6-4) fought their way past the Cougars (6-2).

Howell 3, Toms River North 2 (OT)

Central 2, Manchester 0

Freshman John Truhan opened the scoring in the 20th minute with his first varsity goal off a pass from sophomore Gianni Smith and the Golden Eagles (1-8) downed the Hawks (6-3) for their first win of the season.

Smith also assisted the second goal of the game, with senior Kody Huffert providing the finish in the 38th. Junior Jason Trapp saved nine shots to earn his first shutout.

Middletown South 3, Manasquan 3

Junior Tommy Johnson scored twice in the final 10 minutes of regulation and the Warriors (3-5-1) pulled out a desperately-needed draw with the Eagles (5-3-3).

Johnson nailed a direct kick in the 70th minute and headed in a cross from senior Drew Greenblatt in the 76th to tie the game at 3-3.

Greenblatt opened the scoring in the 10th minute, chesting down a pass from senior Frank Manno and finishing for the game's first goal.

Middletown South came roaring back with three unanswered goals in the second half. Serior Danny Minze found the head of classmate Joey Petzhold for the equalizer and then scored two of his own off assists by senior Jack Obszarny to push the Eagles lead to 3-1.

Manasquan had to win or draw Friday to keep its hopes of qualifying for the Shore Conference Tournament alive. Barring a schedule change next week, the Warriors will have to beat divisional opponents Monmouth and Raritan to qualify.

The draw was the second in as many games for Middletown South.

Manalapan 2, No. 9 Middletown North 1

Senior Mike Schimbeno assisted goals by junior Dylan Fread and senior James Besser and the Braves (2-5-1) held on to beat the Lions (7-4) to continue their turnaround following a 0-5 start.

Alex Perez drew Middletown North one goal closer by scoring in the 69th minute.

Monmouth 1, Red Bank 0

Diego Ibarra scored off a rebound on an initial shot by Ryan Kuldanek for the lone goal of the game as the Falcons (9-1) edged the Bucs (3-6).

No. 6 Wall 5, Shore 0

Senior Thomas Perry scored two goals - both in the second half - to help spark the Crimson Knights (8-2) to a one-sided win over the Blue Devils (2-7-1).

Junior Jake Pepe opened the scoring in the 27th off a pass from sophomore Terence Byrnes and junior Nico DellaPietro added a goal 2:36 before halftime.

Sophomore Emmett Aravich capped the scoring with his goal in the final minute.

St. John Vianney 2, Asbury Park 1

Junior Danny Vitale scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute out of a scrum in front of the net and the Lancers (2-8-1) topped the Blue Bishops (5-6) on the road.

Senior Armand Valentino converted a breakaway for St. John Vianney's first goal.

No. 2 Marlboro 3, Toms River East 2

Senior Max Shushkovsky scorched a 20-yard shot into the goal with four seconds left on the clock and the Mustangs (9-1) beat the Raiders (4-4-2) in a thriller in Toms River.

The game-winner was Shushkovsky's second of the game. Senior Mitchell Katsman scored the other goal, senior Mike Steinberg assisted two goals and senior Dan Risin handed out the other assist.

Senior Dane Bodziak scored both Toms River East goals off assists by junior Taylor Cleven.
