Class A North

No. 9 Marlboro 1, Howell 1

Junior Scott Vituli headed in the equalizer off a cross from senior Eric Tsirkin in the 60th minute and the Mustangs (1-1-1, 1-1-1) salvaged a draw against the previously-perfect and still-unbeaten Rebels (3-0-1, 3-0-1).

Junior Tyler Gabrielson staked Howell to a 1-0 lead with a penalty kick in the 18th minute.

No. 1 Freehold Twp. 1, Manalapan 0

Junior J.T. Gold drilled a 20-yard rocket to the far-fight side netting in the 66th minute for the deciding goal and the Patriots (4-0, 4-0) pulled out a second straight win over the Braves (0-4, 0-4) and fourth overall to open the season.

No. 5 Long Branch 1, Middletown South 0

Junior Lucas Da Costa scored off a pass from senior Augusto Bontempo for his second goal in as many days and the Green Wave (2-0, 2-0) held off the Eagles (0-3, 0-3) to secure a season-sweep in the series.

 

Class A Central

Holmdel 2, No. 10 Monmouth 1

For the second straight game, a penalty kick by senior Felix Doebbel proved the difference as the Hornets (2-0, 2-0) edged the Falcons (0-4, 0-4) to extend their unbeaten streak to 56 games.

Doebbel's penalty kick broke a 1-1 tie in the 62nd minute, with senior Noah Mendez scoring off an assist from senior Tomas Zolofra for Holmdel's first goal in the 28th.

Junior Ethan Wallace scored the Monmouth goal.

 

Class B North

No. 7 Wall 2, Neptune 0

Junior Dan Hyde scored in the 18th minute and senior Philip Lyons converted a penalty kick in the 78th to push the Crimson Knights (4-0, 4-0) past the Scarlet Fliers (0-3, 0-3) for their fourth straight win to open the season.

Manasquan 3, Freehold Boro 2 (OT)

Junior Sam Pearlberg knocked in a cross from senior Simon Cardenas in the second overtime and the Warriors (3-0-1, 3-0-1) survived a comeback by the Colonials (1-3, 1-3) with a golden-goal win.

Freehold Boro scored twice in the final 11 minutes to send the game into overtime, with senior Matt Castles cutting the deficit in half in the 70th and junior Tharnthong Phua tied it in the 77th.

Manasquan took the lead a minute into the match on a goal by senior Sean Wayne after he gathered a throw from senior Liam Diamond and beat two defenders. The Warriors extended the lead in the 52nd on a goal by Cardenas off a pass from sophomore Aidan Sugre.

Matawan 1, Red Bank 0 (OT)

Senior Justin Skeete scored the golden goal in the 92nd minute and junior Christian Wheeler finished off his third shutout in goal to help the Huskies (3-1, 3-1) edge the Bucs (0-4, 0-4) for their third win - all by a 1-0 margin.

No. 6 Colts Neck 5, St. John Vianney 0

Sunior David Tuschmann recorded a goal and two assists and senior Derek Haaf chipped in a goal and an assist as the Cougars (2-0, 2-0) coasted by the Lancers (0-2-1, 0-2-1).

Senior Jake Gershon opened the scoring off a pass from Haff, who scored to make it 2-0 in the first off a set-up from Tuschmann. Jairo Chira made it 3-0 with a goal before halftime and junior Tom Samaras assisted second-half goals by Ryan Lee and Tuschmann.
