Class A South
No. 3 Toms River North 2, No. 9 Jackson Memorial 1
Seniors Danny Moreno and Parker Nickelsen each scored a goal and the Mariners (3-0, 3-0) held off the Jaguars (0-3, 0-3) to remain unbeaten in the early part of the 2020 season.
Moreno was tripped up within the 18-yard box in the 49th minute and buried the ensuing penalty kick to open the scoring. In the 77th, Nickelsen tracked down a lead from classmate Ali Baish and walked it into the goal.
Jackson Memorial pulled within a goal when senior Joey Giusti headed in a throw-in by senior Zach Rogacki with 2:01 on the clock and the Jaguars earned a direct kick from 22 yards out in the final seconds, but Toms River North goalkeeper Dawson Kaniuk secured the attempt to seal the victory.
Toms River East 4, Brick 3 (OT)
Junior Noah Raimonde scored the equalizer in the 48th minute and assisted the golden goal by senior Mike Conklin in the first minute of overtime as the Raiders (1-2, 1-2) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to top the Green Dragons (1-2, 1-2).
Sophomore Kajus Matazinskas scored two minutes into the second half to trim the Brick lead to 3-2 and earlier assisted a goal by senior Alex Heid that momentarily gave Toms River East a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.
Brick answered Heid's goal with three straight of its own, starting with a score by Sean Palmer in the 17th to tie it. An own goal pushed the Dragons in front in the 22nd and junior Riley Lafay extended the lead to 3-1 in the 26th.
Toms River South 3, Central 0
Senior Peter Mandica assisted goals by senior Harrison Jacobus and junior Chris Higham and the Indians (2-1, 2-1) pulled away with a win over the Golden Eagles (0-2-1, 0-2-1).
Junior Danny Lindov capped the scoring in the second half with Toms River South's third goal, which came off a feed from senior Connor Clayton.
No. 2 Southern 5, Brick Memorial 1
Senior Kevin Kiernan recorded a hat trick to become Southern's all-time goal-scoring leader and lead the Rams (3-0, 3-0) to a win over the Mustangs (1-1-1, 1-1-1).
Kiernan now stands at 44 goals for his career and eclipsed former record-holder and 1990 graduate Matt Kmosko.
Class A Central
Ocean 2, Shore 0
Juniors Aidan Tisony (penalty kick) and Brian Miranda each scored a goal and the Spartans (3-0, 3-0) blanked the Blue Devils (0-2, 0-2) for their third straight win to open the season.
Class B Central
Point Beach 2, Keyport 0
Senior Nate Whelan opened the scoring in the 25th minute off a feed from classmate Justin Mazzatta and junior Tanner Curtis finally added an insurance goal with a free kick in the 75th as the Garnet Gulls (3-0, 3-0) and goalkeeper Dylan Aportela (eight saves) blanked the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3).

Class B South
Lacey 2, Manchester 0
Senior D.J. Edinger set up a goal by junior Kody Besser in the first minute, then added one of his own in the 59th to spark the Lions (2-0-1, 2-0-1) to a win over the Hawks (1-1-1, 1-1-1). Senior goalkeeper Anthony Leporino saved nine shots to post the shutout.
Pinelands 1, Barnegat 0
Senior Johnny Hart buried a shot from 20 yards out off a give-and-go with junior James Cahill and the Wildcats (3-0, 3-0) made it stand up in a win over the Bengals (0-3, 0-3).
Jackson Liberty 2, Point Boro 1
Sophomores Gerard Cerino and Connor Yurgel both scored in the final eight minutes of the first half and the Lions (3-0, 3-0) held on to upend the Panthers (0-2-1, 0-2-1) for their third straight win to open the season.
Cerino's unassisted goal tied the game in the 32nd minute and Yurgel put Jackson Liberty on top in the 36th off a pass from senior Tim Cappucci.
Junior Aidan Huhn opened the scoring for Point Boro with a goal in the 24th minute.
Donovan Catholic 1, Lakewood 0
Junior Preston Kyriakoulis scored off a feed from senior Damin Mangin in the 61st minute and the Griffins (1-2, 1-2) held on to beat the Piners (0-2-1, 0-2-1) for their first win of the season.
