Ocean County Sports Medicine Week 4 Players of the Week

Leger has developed into one of the Shore’s top scorers during his breakout junior season and his recent play has helped Manalapan go 7-2 over its last nine games. Last week, turned in two modest scoring performances by his standards – 12 points in a win over Howell and 16 win a win over Freehold Boro – before going off when the Braves needed him most. Class A South Player of the Week

Delani Hyde, Toms River North

It is hard to narrow it down to one player to recognize from Toms River North each week and it was more of the same during a strong showing this week by the Mariners. Three different players led the team in scoring during the 3-0 week and of the three, Hyde was the steadiest contributor from game-to-game. He scored eight points in a win over Brick Memorial, put up 12 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in a win over Jackson Memorial, and closed the week with 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in a win over St. John Vianney.

Class A South Honorable Mention: Kai Barckley, Toms River South; Owen Baker, Toms River North; Josh Michigan, Brick Memorial; Micah Ford, Toms River North; Jason McKelvey, Toms River East; Keith Adame, Jackson Memorial; Dorian Alston, Brick Memorial; Respect Tyleek, Jackson Memorial

Class B North Player of the Week

Dylan Csik, Middletown South

Another Middletown South player earns the B North limelight this week, and why not? The Eagles have won 11 in a row and have their eyes fixed on the Class B North title, with Csik and fellow senior Pat Brown turning in big weeks again. In three Middletown South wins last week, Csik averaged 14 points, 4.7 rebounds, nine assists and three steals – headlined by 19 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a buzzer-beating win over Rumson-Fair Haven.

Class B North Honorable Mention: Vova Trotsko, Colts Neck; Pat Brown, Middletown South; Nick Valentino, Red Bank; Jason Quardt, Middletown North; Luke Schorr, Rumson-Fair Haven; Tyler Burnham, Red Bank Catholic; Ryan Prior, Red Bank Catholic; Nick Rigby, Rumson-Fair Haven; Luke Mikolajczyk, Rumson-Fair Haven; Will Surdez, Colts Neck

Class B Central Player of the Week

John Coakley, Point Beach

Point Beach had several heroes last week and that was just in its overtime win over Lacey. While his teammates, Kevin Burns and Jacob Edgecomb hit the two biggest shots in that win, Coakley’s catch-and-pass with 1.9 seconds left to set up Edgecomb’s game-tying buzzer beater was one of the plays of the week and unsung plays of the year. The stats were there for Coakley as well: the junior posted 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the win at Lacey, which came after 18 points and six boards in a divisional win over Asbury Park earlier in the week.

Class B Central Honorable Mention: Na’Sun Lee, Keansburg; Davon Foster, Asbury Park; Shaborn Goodman, Asbury Park; Jax Ross, Henry Hudson; Max Judson, Keyport; Jacob Edgecomb, Point Beach; Kevin Burns, Point Beach

Class B South Player of the Week

Miles Chevalier, Central

Chevalier made a strong case to be the previous B South Player of the Week, instead giving way to teammate Jaycen Santucci. Chevalier kept up his strong play into last week to earn the latest honor while the Eagles continue to dominate the division. The senior wing threw up two more 20-point performances, first against Pinelands and again vs. Manchester – the latter of which was a 27-point performance that also came with 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Class B South Honorable Mention: Ryan Fitzgerald, Lacey; Brandon Farber, Brick; Evan Weiner, Manchester; Jamari Smith, Barnegat; Jaycen Santucci, Central; Chris Venturoso, Lacey

Class C North Player of the Week

Ryan Frauenheim, Manasquan

You can take your pick between Frauenheim and teammate Darius Adams for this week’s honor in C North after both players helped spark a huge week for the Warriors. Frauenheim gets the nod for scoring a career-high 33 points in a win over a full-strength Ranney team, hitting the dagger jumper in a win over St. Rose, then earning game MVP honors in a Sunday win over Rutgers Prep.

Class C North Honorable Mention: Darius Adams, Manasquan; Isaac Hester, Ranney; Jahlil Bethea, Ranney; Jack Dettlinger, Manasquan; Davionne Pearson, Neptune; Evan Romano, St. Rose; Bryan Ebeling, St. Rose; Shane Ryan, Point Boro

Class C South Player of the Week

Brandon Laughlin, Ocean

Ocean has followed the lead of its talented group of sophomores, but Loughlin has been an important senior presence throughout the season and last week more than ever. The 6-foot-5 senior went for 17 points, six rebounds and four blocks in a win over Donovan Catholic, netted 13 points in a win over Jackson Liberty and closed out the week with 20 points in a Spartans overtime win over Toms River East.

Class C South Honorable Mention: Zayier Dean, Ocean; Ta’haj Wiggins, Monmouth; Pete Farlekas, Donovan Catholic; Alex George, Shore; Jayson King, Jackson Liberty

Wild Cards

Kai Barckley, Toms River South

Toms River South pulled off one of the upsets of the year in the Shore Conference, knocking off Southern – then ranked No. 4 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 – for the Indians’ first division win and Southern’s first division loss in Class A South. Barckley carried the offense with a career-high 22 points in the win.

Volodymy Trotsko, Colts Neck

“Vova” Trotsko came to the U.S. from war-torn Ukraine and has found a home on the court with Colts Neck. The sturdy, 6-foot-6 sophomore authored two more big performances last week, scoring 18 points in a loss at Rumson, followed by 22 points and nine rebounds in a Cougars road win over Red Bank.
