Class A North
No. 3 Freehold Twp. 69, Manalapan 48
Senior Steve Staklinski scored a career-high 37 points and the Patriots (13-0, 7-0) beat the Braves (2-9, 0-7) for their 13th straight win to open the season. Senior Ryan Zyskowski also poured in 20 points for Freehold Township.
No. 7 Marlboro 48, CBA 33
Senior Dan Weiss scored 13 points to lead a balanced offensive effort and the Mustangs (8-3, 6-1) beat the Colts (7-5, 3-4) for what is believed to be the first time in school history, according to Marlboro athletic director Dave Ryden.
Senior P.J. Ringel and sophomore Dylan Kaufman each added 12 points for Marlboro, with Ringel also added six assists and six steals.
Howell 56, Freehold Boro 43
Senior Nasiem Brantley scored 14 points to go with 10 rebounds and the Rebels (3-8, 2-5) topped the Colonials (1-11, 1-6). Senior Tyler Hoops and sophomore Matt Ganter each added 10 in the win.
Class A Central
No. 5 Rumson-Fair Haven 75, St. John Vianney 51
Junior Teddy Sourlis scored 27 points while burying eight three-pointers and the Bulldogs (11-0, 6-0) rolled past the Lancers (3-8, 1-5) for their 11th straight win to open the season.
Sophomore Ian O'Connor led four more Rumson players in double-figure scoring with 14 points, while junior Jack Solano poured in 12 and senior Tyler Pierson netted 10. Senior Dan Dinneny led St. John Vianney with 12 points.
Red Bank 44, Holmdel 39
Junior Devin Cooper scored 22 points and the Bucs (6-5, 4-2) handed the Hornets (3-6, 3-3) their sixth straight loss. Quran Malloy added 11 points for Red Bank, while senior Nick Harris led Holmdel with 18 points.
Raritan 42, Shore 27
Class A South
No. 9 Central 67, Toms River East 39
Senior Maks Gruszecki scored a game-high 23 points to help lead the Golden Eagles (10-2, 6-1) to a lopsided win over the Raiders (2-8, 0-7). Senior Denis Corbin added 14 points and 15 rebounds for Central.
Brick Memorial 36, Jackson Memorial 33
Junior Anthony Argondizza led a balanced scoring effort with nine points and the Mustangs (4-7, 3-4) pulled out the win over the Jaguars (6-5, 3-4) in a low-scoring affair. Junior Vinny Hernandez added eight points for Brick Memorial, while senior Ryan Lucas led Jackson Memorial with a game-high 10 points.
No. 4 Toms River North 79, Brick 38
Junior Holden Petrick scored 16 points and the Mariners (12-1, 6-0) cruised past the Green Dragons (7-4, 4-3) to remain unbeaten in Class A South play. Seniors Mike Nyisztor and Darrion Carrington each added 11 points, with Nyisztor pulling in nine rebounds and Carrington handing out six assists as well.
Senior Jaden Rhoden also added nine points, nine rebounds and five steals in the win.
Senior Noah Buono led Brick with 15 points and sophomore Shane Williams scored eight in the loss.
Southern 55, Toms River South 36
Senior Mark Valeriani scored a game-high 21 points and the Rams (3-10, 2-5) coasted to a win over the Indians (4-6, 3-3). Junior Jake Dubois added 12 points, six assists and four steals for Southern, while junior Thomas Foster chipped in 10 points in the win.
Senior Jake Regan led Toms River South with 16 points.
Class B North
Middletown North 81, Wall 69
Sophomore Rob Higgins scored 22 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Lions (6-6, 4-3) past the Crimson Knights (4-7, 2-5). Senior Marc Cerbo added 14 points, senior John Tomassetti poured in 10 and junior Sky Cherry pitched in 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior Steve Geis led Wall with a game-high 25 points while senior Mike Andrejco added 14 in defeat.
Long Branch 58, Red Bank Catholic 55 (OT)
Sophomore Marc Dennis hit a game-tying floater with 1.5 seconds left to send the game to overtime and went 4-for-4 in the extra session to help the Green Wave (7-4, 5-2) top the Caseys (7-4, 5-2).
Dennis finished with a game-high 23 points, while junior Tyree Morris added 11.
Freshman Charlie Gordinier scored to put RBC up 49-47 with 20 seconds left in regulation and also hit a three to open up overtime. Senior Cascius Briggs, who scored 10 points, answered with a three for Long Branch and Dennis then put Long Branch ahead at the foul line.
Gordinier finished with 14 points for RBC, while senior Terence Calandrillo led the Caseys with 19.
Ocean 65, Middletown South 45
Junior Andrew Seager scored 25 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Spartans (9-3, 4-3) over the Eagles (3-9, 2-5). Freshman Jack Miller also pitched in 12 points for Ocean.
Junior Dave Gervase led Middletown South with 13 points.
Manasquan 69, Monmouth 56
Senior Devin Jensen scored a game-high 30 points for his fourth 30-plus-point game of the season and the Warriors (9-3, 6-1) grounded the Falcons (2-9, 0-7). Jensen also grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Brad McCabe posted 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior Myles Owens led Monmouth with 11 points, junior Ian Fitzgerald added 10 and seniors Tyler Hawkins and Jalen Gates each scored nine in the loss.
Class B Central
Keyport 54, Henry Hudson 52
Senior Chris Hogrefe scored 17 points and senior Brendan O'Brien added 16 to lead the Red Raiders (3-7, 1-5) past the Admirals (0-11, 0-6) in a tight B Central game.
Senior Matt Going led Henry Hudson with a game-high 20 points, while sophomore Jay Anthony (13) and senior Tom Fennell (11) each reached double-figure scoring.
No. 2 Mater Dei Prep 45, No. 6 Point Beach 40
Senior Elijah Barnes scored a game-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds and five blocks and the Seraphs (10-3, 6-1) held off the Garnet Gulls (9-3, 5-2) to snap a brief two-game skid. Junior Kenny Jones added 13 points for Mater Dei.
Junior Danny Frauenheim led Point Beach with 16 points as the Garnet Gulls suffered their second straight loss after wracking up nine straight wins. Point Beach lost to Rumson, 63-61, on Saturday.
Class B South
No. 10 Lakewood 64, Lacey 32
Junior Kevin Dent led four Lakewood players in double-figure scoring with 14 points and the Piners (9-3, 6-1) doubled up the Lions (2-8, 2-5). Junior Jyheir Jones poured in 12 points, junior Khari Jenkins added 11 and senior Adi Palmer chipped in 10 for Lakewood.
Manchester 41, Pinelands 40
Senior Zion Mununga scored 11 points to lead all scorers and the Hawks (4-7, 2-5) clipped the Wildcats (1-13, 0-7). Senior L.J. Robinson added nine points for Manchester, while sophomore Andrew Schulz led Pinelands with nine points.
Senior Chris Burke, sophomore Anthony Diaz and senior John Garris each added eight points in the loss.
Donovan Catholic 57, Point Boro 48
Senior Anthony Silvestrone scored 19 points to go with five boards and three assists as the Griffins (7-4, 6-1) topped the Panthers (8-4, 6-1) for their second consecutive crucial B South road win. Prior to losing to Central on Saturday, Donovan Catholic won at Lakewood on Thursday - the program's first win over the Piners since 2010.
Junior Jethro Moll added 12 points and eight rebounds, senior Joe San Fillippo contributed eight points and 11 points, and junior Matt Melon pitched in six points, six rebounds and seven assists in the win.
Senior Jack Waddleton led Point Boro with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior John Venturi also scored 10 points while junior John Duda added nine points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Barnegat 53, Jackson Liberty 50
Junior Alex Grogan drilled a tiebreaking three with 2.5 seconds left and the Bengals (9-3, 5-2) beat the Lions (2-9, 2-5) in a B South thriller. Grogan scored a season-high 19 points behind four three-pointers, while junior Carson Francisco led Barnegat with a game-high 22 points.
Sophomore Daniel Sofield led Jackson Liberty with 17 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
