Sophomore Alex Ratner scored a game-high 21 points and junior Dylan Kaufman added 14 to lead the Mustangs (1-2, 1-2) to a rout of the Rebels (0-3, 0-3) for their first win of the year.

No. 4 Neptune 56, Freehold Boro 29

Senior Jared Kimbrough posted 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Scarlet Fliers (3-0, 3-0) coasted past the Colonials (0-3) for their third straight win to open the season. Senior Kobe Blake also poured in 12 points and senior Seth Fields added 10 for Neptune.

Senior Ashante Worthy led Freehold with 10 points.

No. 5 CBA 73, Freehold Twp. 39

Senior Rob Mahala and junior Stephen Braunstein scored 18 points each and the Colts (2-1, 2-0) throttled the Patriots (1-2, 1-2) thanks to 25-0 advantage in the third quarter to build the lead to 63-21.

Junior Josh Cohen added 16 points and junior Liam Kennedy made it four Colts in double-figure scoring with 10 points.

Junior Zack Barilka led Freehold Township with 10 points.

No. 6 Colts Neck 77, Manalapan 47

Senior Ben Bosland scored 15 points to lead a balanced scoring effort and the Cougars (3-0, 3-0) stormed out to a big first-quarter lead against the Braves (1-1, 1-1) and never looked back. Colts Neck outscored Manalapan, 20-4, in the first quarter and built the lead to 44-16 by halftime.

Senior Danny Gaines added 13 points and senior Zach Albom pitched in 10 for Colts Neck. Seven Cougars players scored at least six points in the game, including Andrew Abujawdeh (nine), Rob Hill (eight), Sabour Quddus (six) and Mike Federici (six).

Sophomore Ryan Szatkowski led Manalapan with 10 points.

 

Class A Central

Matawan 64, Shore 38

Senior Mike Dunne scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out five assists to lead the Huskies (2-1, 2-1) to a win over the previously-unbeaten Blue Devils (2-1, 1-1).

Senior Reggie Tawiah poured in 12 points to go with five rebounds, while sophomore Darrell Rogers chipped in 11 points, five rebounds and five assists for Matawan.

Junior Kyle Koob and senior Kevin DuBois each scored nine points to lead Shore.

 

Class A South

Southern 56, Central 54

Senior Thomas Foster scored 18 points and grabbed nine boards to help the Rams (2-1, 1-1) edge the Golden Eagles (0-3, 0-3) on the road.

Junior Johnny Tilton added 15 points and seven rebounds, junior Cole Markley scored 10 points and senior Alex Tcheveev blocked eight shots for Southern. Tilton also helped Southern put the game away by going 8-for-9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Marvin Goodwine Jr. led Central with 16 points. Sophomore Darius Martorano added 14 points and senior Xavier Jackson chipped in 10 in the loss.

Southern played its second straight game without senior Jake DuBois, its leading scorer from a year ago.

Jackson Memorial 35, Toms River South 34

Junior Nick Kinzler scored 12 points and hauled in seven rebounds to lead the Jaguars (1-1, 1-1) to a hard-fought road win over the Indians (0-3, 0-3). Senior Alex Cabrera and junior Jayson Lee added six points apiece in the win.

No. 9 Toms River North 57, Toms River East 47

Senior Travis Holland scored 16 points to go with nine rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots as the Mariners (3-0, 3-0) held off the Raiders (1-2, 1-1) to remain unbeaten.

Sophomore Najae Hallenback added 11 points and nine boards, while senior Eliot Daks pitched in nine points and 11 rebounds. Senior Nick Perna also threw in nine points and seven rebounds in the win.

Senior Nick Shortino led Toms River East with 15 points while senior Nick Silvia added 14 in the loss.

Brick Memorial 51, Brick 50

Senior Jake Sliazis scored the go-ahead basket with under 10 seconds to play and the Mustangs (2-0, 2-0) erased a double-digit third-quarter deficit and handed the rival Green Dragons (3-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season.

Senior Vin Vecchione scored a game-high 14 points and connected on four three-pointers to lead Brick Memorial, while senior Vin Hernandez added 12 points and senior Anthony Argondizza poured in 10. Sliazis finished the game with six points.

Senior Kyle Sullivan led Brick with 13 points and senior Dan Venezia added 12 on four three-pointers to go with 15 rebounds. Junior Jalen Jackson contributed 10 points and four steals while senior Mike Mellito pitched in six points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals in the loss.

 

Class B North

Red Bank Catholic 76, Wall 67 (OT)

Sophomore Charlie Gordinier led four RBC players in double-figures with 21 points and the Caseys (2-1, 2-1) outlasted the Crimson Knights (1-2, 1-2) in overtime.

Senior John Kelly added 15 points, junior Steve Lubischer chipped in 14 and junior John Duffy contributed 10 in the RBC win.

Senior Andy Lenneper scored a career-high 27 points to lead Wall, while senior Steve Geis poured in 21. Sophomore Quinn Calabrese also scored 12 points in the loss.

No. 7 Manasquan 42, Long Branch 32

Junior Xander Korolik scored a game-high 15 points and senior Ryan Flanagan chipped in 11 to help the Warriors (3-0, 3-0) top the Green Wave (1-2, 1-2) for their third straight win to open the season.

Junior Marc Dennis led Long Branch with 11 points.

No. 10 Middletown North 67, Ocean 59

Junior Rob Higgins scored 20 of his game-high 36 points in the fourth quarter, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead the Lions (2-1, 2-1) past the Spartans (1-2, 1-2).

Higgins hit two key three-pointers in the fourth and notched his 1,000th point on a free throw with 23.5 seconds left. He finished 17-for-21 from the line, including 10-for-12 in the fourth quarter. He also handed out four assists.

Sophomore Jack Miller led Ocean with a career-high 28 points and twice hit three-pointers that cut Middletown North's lead to three in the fourth quarter. Higgins answered both shots by Miller with threes of his own to stretch Middletown North's lead to six.

Senior Dave Campbell added 14 points for Middletown North and senior Sky Cherry chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.

Senior Andrew Seager scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Ocean.

 

Class B Central

No. 8 Point Beach 65, Keyport 32

Senior Trevor Covey scored a career-high 26 points and the Garnet Gulls (2-1, 2-1) rolled to a win over the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3).

Senior Danny Frauenheim added 16 points and junior Josh Yates poured in 12 for Point Beach, which outscored Keyport, 19-0, in the third quarter.

Sophomore C.J. Johnson led Keyport with 11 points.

St. Rose 64, Asbury Park 53

Senior Dave Calloway scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Purple Roses (2-1, 2-1) to a win over the Blue Bishops (1-1, 1-1).

Senior Ethan Tombs added 11 points while sophomore John Beattie pitched in 10 for St. Rose.

Junior Alexx Harbour led Asbury Park with 15 points while senior Ja'King Agostini added nine in the loss.

 

Class B South

Pinelands 56, Lakewood 43

Junior Anthony Diaz erupted for 33 points and the Wildcats (2-2, 2-1) knocked off the Piners (1-2, 1-2) for just the second time in school history and first since 2006-07.

Senior Steven Skie added 10 points and junior Andrew Schulz poured in nine for Pinelands, which was just two days removed from scoring only 18 points in a 39-point loss to Brick.

Senior Zyheir Jones led Lakewood with 16 points, while sophomore Ryan Savoy added nine and senior Jyheir Jones poured in eight in the loss.

Point Boro 76, Manchester 31

Senior Connor Costigan pumped in 20 points and the Panthers (3-0, 3-0) raced past the Hawks (0-3, 0-3) for their third straight win to open the season.

Senior Connor Strickland netted 15 points while sophomore Sam Young also pitched in nine for Point Boro.

Sophomore Josh Hayes led Manchester with 12 points.

Jackson Liberty 69, Lacey 63

Junior Takai Anderson led three Jackson Liberty players in double-figure scoring with 20 points and Jackson Liberty (2-1, 2-1) beat Lacey (1-2, 1-2) for its second straight win.

Junior Miles Neal added a career-high 19 points while junior Daniel Sofield poured in 16 for Jackson Liberty.

Junior Carl Swenson continued his fast start to the season with 28 points and seven rebounds to lead Lacey. He scored 19 points in the opener vs. Point Boro and 30 in a win over Manchester on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jordan Cohen poured in 14 points while junior Kevin O'Rourke added nine in the loss. Both Lions players also grabbed six rebounds.

 

Non-Conference

Roselle 71, Henry Hudson 37

Sophomore Grady Henderson scored 16 points and junior Jay Anthony added 10, but the Admirals (0-3) fell to the Rams (2-1) on the road.

Plainfield 66, Red Bank 27
