Basketball – Pending Snow Storm Delays Start of Tournament of Champions
Update, March 14, 2:20 p.m.: The boys Tournament of Champions quarterfinal has been postponed from Wednesday to Friday, still at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River. The games will still begin at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., with Don Bosco taking on Verona in the first game and West Side Newark battling Teaneck after.
With both the girls and boys opening rounds postponed by two days, the semifinals - originally scheduled Thursday for the girls and Friday for the boys - will now be played on Sunday at Pine Belt Arena. The girls semifinal games will tip at noon and 2 p.m. and the boys games will tip at 5 and 7 p.m. The gym will be cleared at the conclusion of the second girls semifinal.
The NJSIAA announced Monday the start of the Tournament of Champions has been postponed due to the call for more than a foot of snow for much of the state on Tuesday.
The girls quarterfinal round, originally scheduled for Tuesday night at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River, has been moved to Thursday at the same location. The games are scheduled for the same tip times as they were on Tuesday, with fourth-seeded Franklin playing No. 5 Pascack Valley at 5:30 p.m. and No. 3 Red Bank Catholic taking on No. 6 Bound Brook at 7:30 p.m.
The T of C semifinals were originally scheduled for Thursday in Toms River and have now been rescheduled for Sunday, with the double-header beginning at noon. Pine Belt Arena is not available on Saturday.
The boys T of C schedule has not yet been altered. The boys are slated to tip on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and should the weather postpone the quarterfinal round, it would most likely be rescheduled to Friday at the same time, according to an NJSIAA official. That scenario would also result in both the girls and boys semifinals being played Sunday in Toms River, with the boys double-header to follow the girls double-header.
Monday's championship double-header at the Sun Bank Center in Trenton remains unchanged.
