Baseball Thursday Scoreboard, 5/10/18
Class A North
No. 1 CBA 5, Howell 3
Connor Baksh was 2-for-3 with a home run and Jack Harnisch went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored to key a Colts (18-2, 13-1) win over the Rebels (8-10, 6-8).
Blaise Venancio struck out 10 and walked two over five scoreless, three-hit innings of relief to earn the win. Nick Hohenstein started the game and was also 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and three walks.
Braedin Hunt added a pair of RBI in a 1-for-3 game for CBA.
Joe Colucci was 1-for-3 with two RBI for Howell and Ryan Bearse struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings while taking the loss.
Class A Central
St. John Vianney 8, Holmdel 3
Luciano Fabrizzi went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI and Logan Marter struck out nine in a complete-game effort as the Lancers (10-6, 8-4) wrapped up A Central play by beating the crosstown rival Hornets (3-14, 2-10).
Robert Skinner was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Evan Perrette went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Chin went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Frank D'Alessio was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in the win.
Marter scattered eight hits, allowed one earned run and did not issue a walk in his 92-pitch outing.
Mike Iulo was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Jason Lyons and Alex DiBona each went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Holmdel.
Non-Division
Freehold Boro 10, Middletown South 6
Cam Elslager and Steven Gee each ripped a two-run double during a seven-run second inning that propelled the Colonials (12-8) to a win over the Eagles (9-11), Middletown South's sixth loss in its last seven games.
Mark Costanzo also went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Freehold Boro.
Matawan 4, Point Boro 3
Dan Hirujo singled in a run during a three-run fifth inning that made a winner out of freshman Tim Egan and helped the Huskies (9-7) clinch a spot in the SCT with a win over the Panthers (13-6).
Hirujo also closed out the win with three innings of work, during which he allowed one run on three hits and a walk. Egan allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks. Both pitchers recorded a strikeout.
Derek Jordan was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Jay Kalieta finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored in the win.
Nick Guzzi took the hard-luck loss, giving up one earned run on just three hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings and 110 pitches.
Andrew Laspina and Paul Franceschini each went 2-for-3, with Laspina driving in two and Franceschini scoring one and knocking one in for Point Boro.
Neptune 13, Point Beach 4
Winning pitcher Rob Cole went 2-for-4 with two RBI, as did Sebastian Jno-Baptiste as the Scarlet Fliers (2-16) beat the Garnet Gulls (13-6) to snap a 13-game losing streak.
Jno-Baptiste also scored three runs and Cole allowed four runs on five hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings and 89 pitches while striking out seven. Greg Millaway closed out the game with 2 1/3 scoreless innings and also went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Devon Furges doubled and drove in a run and Jack Smith doubled and scored in four at-bats.
Vincent Storino as 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Josh Yates was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to pace Point Beach. Phil Antoniotti was also 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the loss.

Marlboro 5, No. 6 St. Rose 3
The Mustangs (9-9) answered St. Rose's three-run sixth with three of their own in the top of the seventh inning tp beat the Purple Roses (16-5) and secure a Shore Conference Tournament berth.
Ramon Fontanes was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, while Gurkuran Singh, Joe Lomangino and Anthony Brienza each went 1-for-4 with an RBI, with Singh's hit coming on a double.
Peter Morreale was also 3-for-4 in the win and teammates Justin Bernstein and Vin Ferrigno each finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Lomangino worked the first five-plus innings and Joe Iacobella recorded the final two outs of the sixth to pick up the win in relief. Justin Levito recorded the final three outs while stranding a pair of runners in the seventh to pick up the save.
St. Rose grabbed the lead in the sixth on consecutive RBI by Jeff DeFazio, Phil Morelli and John Crowley, with DeFazio coming through with a pinch-hit single and Morelli also singling home a run.
Nick Schmidt allowed two runs in six innings before handing the ball to Evan Peeke, who suffered the loss.
Rumson-Fair Haven 3, Manasquan 0
Alex Burnett pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings and the Bulldogs (10-6) edged the Warriors (8-11). Burnett allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out eight and only came out of the game after reaching the 110-pitch limit for a single game.
Gordon Forsyth recorded the final out to earn the save and also went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Robby Smith was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Dan Harby went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
James Harmstead allowed two earned runs over five innings in taking the loss and Ricky Flynn fired two scoreless in relief for Manasquan. Harmstead and Alex Galvan both went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Denny Maher and Ethan Thompson were each 1-for-2, with Maher hitting a double.

Billy Watters was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Justin Korman fired four shutout innings to guide the Braves (17-5) past the Knights (8-14).
Korman allowed two hits and a walk during his 45-pitch outing and struck out one. Joe Mazza followed with an inning of work and Anthony Jomo struck out three and allowed one run over the final two innings.
Giovanni Ciaccio was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored, Rob Gargano and and Anthony Naylor each went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Jake Pellecchia was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Manalapan.
Keansburg 11, Calvary Christian 0
Liam Meyer pitched a five-inning no-hitter and was an error away from a perfect game as the Titans (10-8) handled Calvary Christian in Old Bridge. Meyer struck out nine, walked none and the only base-runner to reach was on an error on the first batter of the game.
Meyer also picked up a pair of hits, including a triple, and Joe Osterbye, Liam Riecks and Gabe Torres each drove in two runs for Keansburg. Justin Alessi also checked in with a three-hit game in the win.
