MONMOUTH BASKETBALL

It has been an exciting basketball season in West Long Branch and hopefully the best is yet to come for both the Monmouth University Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.  The men are battling for third place in the MAAC and appear headed to their best record since the 2016-17 season when they won the regular season title.  George Pappas (15.6ppg) leads three players averaging in double figures and tops the Hawks with 73 3-pointers.  Walker Miller is right behind him at just over 15ppg along with 6.4 rebounds.  Rounding out the trio is Seton Hall transfer Shavar Reynolds Jr. who averages over 14ppg and the former Manchester Township High School standout leads the team in assists.

Coming off a two-win season the Monmouth women have been one of the big stories this winter under first-year head coach Ginny Boggess.  Going into the weekend the Hawks are 12-8 overall and positioned to earn a top four seed in the MAAC Tournament which will be held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. A pair of former Shore Conference high school stars have helped fuel the Monmouth success with Stella Clark (Manasquan) averaging a team-high 12ppg followed by Jen Louro (St. Rose) who scores at just over 9ppg.  Clark leads the team in assists and steals and despite being just 5’4 is second in rebounding.

Both teams have four home games left at the OceanFirst Bank Arena before heading to Atlantic City for what should be an exciting MAAC Tournament.
