Monmouth County Tournament

Quarterfinals

(2) Red Bank Catholic 7, (12) Ranney 1

Declan Leary pitched a four-hitter and the Caseys pushed five runs across in the second inning for all the offense he would need to beat the Panthers and send Red Bank Catholic to the MCT semifinals.

A bases-loaded walk by A.J. Sciametta opened the scoring in the second inning and Max Dantoni followed with an RBI single. Freshman Luke Lonczak then delivered a two-run single and the last run of the inning scored on a wild pitch.

Ranney drew a run closer on a solo home run by Curt Chropuvka in the top of the fourth inning, but RBC responded  with two in the bottom of the fourth on another bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.

(1) CBA 1, (17) Howell 0

Sophomore left-hander Danny DiTullio pitched a two-hit shutout with an assist from his defense in the final inning as the Colts nipped the Rebels to reach the MCT semifinals this coming week.

CBA scored the lone run of the game when senior Jaxon Sevilla stole third base and scored on an overthrown on the throw from catcher Brody Loch.

Howell threatened to tie the game in the top of the seventh when Ryan Todisco walked, moved to second base on a wild pitch and headed home on a single to leftfield by senior Joey Zito. CBA leftfielder Jayden Matejicka quickly fired the ball in to third baseman Dan Russo, who relayed it home to catcher Danny Tsimbinos for the second out of the inning.

(10) Middletown North 11, (3) Matawan 0

Making his third appearance on the mound in the last eight days, Zach Hampton pitched a four-hit shutout on 84 pitches to power the Lions to a one-sided win over the Huskies and a trip to the MCT semifinals to face second-seeded Red Bank Catholic.

Matawan starter Mark Kovach retired the first nine batters of the game, but Middletown North got to him in the top of the fourth inning. After singles by Jason Quardt and Dylan Briggs led off the inning, Kovach hit Hampton to load the bases. Gabe Ahlemeyer drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly and a pair of wild pitches scored the second run. Mike Hallard hit a shallow pop fly to right field, but no Matawan fielder called for the ball and it dropped in shallow right for a two-run single and a 4-0 lead.

Middletown North put the game out of reach with six runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a Ryan Clark RBI single.

No. 13 Donovan Catholic 2, Don Bosco 1

Senior left-hander Jake Marciano struck out 10 batters over six strong innings and the Griffins (10-6) traveled north for a win on the road over the Ironmen (15-2) -- the No. 2 team in N.J., according to NJ Advance Media, that entered the game on an eight-game winning streak.

Marciano allowed three hits and four walks in his six innings of work and turned the ball over to classmate Hunter Lefkus after throwing 112 pitches through six innings. Lefkus worked around a pair of walks to nail down the save and the marquee win for Donovan Catholic.

The Griffins did all their scoring in the first inning, which included four of their seven hits. Dave Yorke and Tyler Levine each singled home a run in the inning and Yorke finished the game 3-for-3.
