South Group IV

2-Cherokee 13, 15-Brick Memorial 1

Bailey Sharpe tallied a first-quarter goal and C.J. Guarino made 18 saves but the Mustangs (7-8) where eliminated by the Chiefs (14-4).

Regular Season

Class A South

Southern 9, Barnegat 8 (OT)

Brian Dunphey scored with two seconds left in regulation before Dylan Jinks tallied in overtime to give Southern (16-2) a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Bengals (13-2) and deliver the Rams the Class A South division title for the second year in a row.

Barnegat led 5-3 at halftime and 6-5 after three quarters before Southern rallied to win. Jinks led the Rams with four goals and one assist, and now has a state-best 81 goals this season. Shawn McManus added two goals and two assists and Dunphy finished with a pair of goals. Brendan Mullen also struck for Southern, while Brendan Lefanto made 11 saves in goal.

J.J. McKenna led Barnegat with four goals and Ricky Gerena added three. Matt Manno also had a goal and Matt Grobelny had a tremendous performance in goal with 25 saves.

 

Nondivisional

St. Rose 16, Long Branch 5

Matt Frost struck for five goals, Sean Sullivan sank four goals and Scott Dimmit tallied twice to lead the Purple Roses (7-7) past the Green Wave (0-19).

 

Nonconference

Montclair Kimberley 9, Holmdel 1

Mark Scherzer scored and Justin Ruiz made 14 saves for the Hornets (9-7) in their loss to the Cougars (11-8).
