Jersey Mikes Team of the Week for Week 3 of the Season is Howell

Howell came out of the holiday break ranked No. 14 in the Shore 16 and went 3-0 which included two victories against teams ranked ahead of them in the Shore 16. Their performance in Week 3 earned them the Jersey Mikes Girls Basketball Team of the Week and they will receive a $150 Gift Card from Jersey Mikes.

The Rebels opened the week against Point Pleasant Boro, who was ranked one spot above them at No. 13. Howell outscored Point Boro 12-4 in the 4th quarter to win their second game of the season against a ranked opponent. Howell had five players score 6 points or more with Ashley Smith and Gabrielle Carpenter leading the way with 11 points each.

Howell followed that victory with a statement win over No. 6 Red Bank Regional, who was coming off winning the WOBM Championship, 31-30 in overtime. Howell stormed out to a 17-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, but RBR was able to keep the Rebels scoreless in the 2nd quarter to close the half 17-10. Both teams battled back and forth with Howell having a chance to win the game in regulation, but they could not convert. Sophomore BellaRose Marino scored the only point in overtime at the free-throw line to give Howell the 31-30 victory. She finished with a game-high 11 points.

Howell would not have a let down game after their big victory, defeating Toms River East 51-31. The Rebels outscored the Raiders 29-9 in the second half to win their 6th game of the season and move to No. 9 in the Shore 16. Junior Kiera McKown posted her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds and was named Shore Conference Player of the Week.
