Junior tight end Mike Gesicki is having the best season of his Penn State career and has been rewarded for those efforts by being named to the Mackey Award Midseason watch list. The Southern Regional High School graduate is among 30 players eligible for the award which is presented annually to the best college tight end in the nation.

Through six games Gesicki has caught 23 passes for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns…all career highs. He is tied among Big Ten players for most receptions by a tight end and leads the conference in yardage. Gesicki has caught passes in all six games this season with his best performance coming against Minnesota on October 1 when he caught five passes for 70 yards.

The 6’6, 252 pound Manahawkin resident is among five Shore Conference alums playing for the Nittany Lions. The others are Garrett Sickels (Red Bank), Manny Bowen (Barnegat), Saeed Blacknall (Manalapan) and Chris Gulla (TR North).

Penn State is 4-2 this season and has a bye this weekend before hosting Ohio State on Saturday, October 22 (8pm).
