Former Freehold Athlete Dies in Texas on Spring Break Trip
A former Freehold high school athlete has died in South Padre Island,Texas while on spring break.
23-year-old Gerald "Gerry" Plescia was found unresponsive by his roommates in a room at a Comfort Inn on Wednesday morning, according to a statement issued by the city of South Padre Island.
City spokeswoman Naida Robles tells the Star-Ledger foul play, drugs or suicide are not suspected as causes of death.
The Asbury Park Press reports Plescia is a 2009 graduate of Freehold Regional High School and attended West Chester University in Pennsylvania. His Facebook page says he worked for Lane Valente Industries. He was a football and basketball player for the Colonials according to Scott Stump of the Shore Sports Network.
Plescia had been visiting the island with a group of classmates, according to KRGV TV.
South Padre Island is a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico on the south Texas coast near the Mexican border.
