Class A North

No. 4 Freehold Twp. 5, Howell 4 (8 Innings)

Winning pitcher Chris Rose tied the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth and won it with a game-ending, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Patriots (6-3, 4-3) to an extra-inning win over the Rebels (4-5, 3-4). Freehold Township scored three runs in the sixth to overcome a 4-1 deficit, capped by Rose's first of two big hits.

Rose surrendered one unearned run in three innings of relief and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Senior Julius Saporito, who entered the game having homered in three straight games for Freehold Township, began the eighth-inning rally with a leadoff double.

Steve Derby also went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base in the win.

Senior right-hander Ryan Wares allowed one earned run and struck out 10 in 5 2/3 innings and also helped his cause by going 2-for-4 with a run scored for Howell. Catcher Rob Napolitano went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

No. 5 CBA 8, Middletown North 1

Sophomore Luca Dalatri pitched six shutout, one-hit innings with nine strikeouts and the Colts (6-2, 6-2) collected nine hits - five fore extra bases - in a win over the Lions (3-4, 3-4). Dalatri also went 2-for-3 with two doubles, while Trey Nelson and Ryan Ramiz both went 2-for-3 as well. Nelson added a triple and the three Colts hitters combined for three RBI and four runs scored.

John Moshella added a two-run double in the second inning and Will Morgan also added a double in the win.

No. 10 Colts Neck 5, Marlboro 2

The Cougars (6-2, 5-2) scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning off Marlboro starter Andrew Nardi to turn a shutout over six innings into a come-from-behind win over the Mustangs (3-6, 2-6). Paul Marinello singled home two runs to give Colts Neck a 4-2 lead after Joe Varile plated the tying run with a suicide squeeze bunt to score Tyler Kay. Gianni Magliaro and Kay singled to start the rally and Kyle Murrin singled home Magliaro for Colts Neck's first run of the game.

Junior Chris Murphy pitched 2 1/3 no-hit innings with three strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Mike Santaromita went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Marlboro.

Middletown South 8, Manalapan 5

Sophomore Austin Markmann allowed three hits and struck out three over five shutout innings and the Eagles (5-4, 4-4) held on to beat the Braves (5-6, 3-4) and sweep the season series. Christian Penk, Joe Timmins and Tom Marinello each had two hits for Middletown South, with Marinello and Timmins each scoring twice and driving in a run, while Penk scored a run.

Jon Strouse led Manalapan with three hits and Dan Russo drove in two runs in the loss.

Class A Central

Monmouth 15, Holmdel 2

No. 7 St. John Vianney, 5, No. 8 Shore 2

Junior Nick DeLuise went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored and Anthony LaVigne added a two-run double as the Lancers (6-4, 6-2) topped the Blue Devils (6-3, 4-3) in a key Class A Central game.

John Michal Broderick allowed one earned run on three hits while walking none and striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. Jeff McPeek finished the game with 3 1/3 perfect innings of relief, striking out three.

Sam Parrino tripled and scored a run for Shore in the loss.

Manasquan 13, Raritan 2 (6 Innings)

Juniors Ty Hawkins and Max Hawkins each went 2-for-3 with a double and combined for six RBI to lead the Warriors (3-6, 3-5) to a win over the Rockets (2-8, 1-7), ending a five-game losing streak. Ty Hawkins drove in four runs and Max Hawkins plated two.

Freshman Tom Sheehan improved to 3-0 and combined with senior Tucker Caccavale to strike out nine while walking none. Bruce Strickland went 2-for-3 and Nick Glenor doubled and scored a run in the loss.

No. 9 Red Bank Catholic 4, Rumson-Fair Haven 2

Tom Puza settled down after surrendering two first-inning runs and pitched six strong innings to lead the Caseys (9-2, 7-2) to a win over the Bulldogs (5-4, 4-4), the sixth straight win for RBC.

Puza allowed two runs on four hits over six innings while striking out nine and walking none. Morgan Maguire singled home a run in the first for Rumson and Thomas Culligan followed with an RBI double.

Red Bank Catholic rallied behind 2-for-3 games from both Chris Bender and Al Molina. Bender drove in two runs and Molina doubled and drove in a run for the Caseys, who also got a double each from Tom Merlo and Doug Facendo.

Molina struck out the side in order in the seventh inning to nail down his third save. Molina has allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 19 in just 8 1/3 innings this season.

Class A South

Brick Memorial 7, No. 3 Jackson Memorial 3

Sophomore Brian Markoski went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Brick Memorial offense and the Mustangs (4-6, 4-3) won their third straight after a 1-6 start by beating the Jaguars (7-3, 6-2) and sophomore starter Chris Hawryluk.

Brick Memorial tagged Jackson starter Hawryluk - who entered the game unscored upon in 14 innings - with six runs by the fourth inning, which was plenty of support for winning pitcher Tyler Goodman.

Senior Kyle Cala - who recently returned from a torn PCL in his knee - doubled off the fence to score Brick Memorial's first run in the first and plated its second with a sacrifice fly in the third. Brick Memorial broke open a 2-1 game with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Jake Voss, Joe Pipher and Markoski. Pipher finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Hawryluk and Rich Rountree each doubled in a run for Jackson Memorial.

Class B North

No. 2 Wall 2, Freehold 1

Matt Tancredi's sacrifice fly scored pinch-runner Brendan Barcas from third with the winning run and the Crimson Knights (9-1, 7-0) scratched across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a win over the Colonials (7-5, 4-3) and remain unbeaten in Class B North. The two Class B North rivals will meet again Wednesday in the Monmouth County Tournament round of 16.

Jack Gifford opened the bottom of the seventh with a lead-off double down the left-field line and scored when Brendan McGregor laid down a successful sacrifice bunt that was thrown away, allowing McGregor to go to second on top of Gifford scoring. Ryan Orender then sacrificed McGregor to third, and after Brendan Barcas came on to run for McGregor with one out, Tancredi lifted the game-winning fly ball to the outfield to chase home the pinch-runner.

Senior right-hander Tyler Swiggart improved to 5-0 with seven innings of four-hit ball. Swiggart allowed one earned run, did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Junior Dante Cuzzolino pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings and singled home freshman Chris Cassandra in the top of the fourth for Freehold's lone run. Sophomore Steve Rullo allowed just one hit in two innings of work, but took the loss after allowing the two unearned runs in the seventh.

Nick Martinez went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk for Wall.

Ocean 6, Long Branch 0

Four Ocean pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout and junior Blake Demeter earned his first varsity win as the Spartans (6-3, 4-2) beat the Green Wave (1-9, 1-6). Dan Verderese, Jake Talarico and Anthony Bartolomei each contributed to the shutout, with Demeter striking out four in the win.

Glenn Davis had two hits, Sam Maxwell scored two runs and John Walsh and Jimmy McGrorry each had a hit and an RBI in the Ocean victory.

Neptune 7, Red Bank 6

The Scarlet Fliers (2-4, 2-4) scored four runs in the second and survived a four-run Red Bank seventh inning to beat the Bucs (3-7, 2-5). Mike Rode had two hits and drove in two with a double in the second.

Latrell Jones pitched six-plus innings to earn the win, surrendering five runs on seven hits while striking out eight. A.J. Forgione pitched five innings of scoreless relief to keep Red Bank in the game, striking out seven while allowing only four hits.

Jesse Mack had two hits and Sha'Mere Williams went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Red Bank.

Class B South

Central 3, No. 6 Barnegat 2

Senior catcher Kenny Beyrouty tied the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh and came all the way around to score the winning run on the same play when the catcher's throw to second went into center field, allowing Beyrouty to score and cap a wild Golden Eagles (5-4, 4-3) win over the Bengals (6-3, 4-3).

Christian Bearden walked and went to third on a double by Andrew DiPiazza to put runners on second and third for Beyrouty. The throw from center field on Beyrouty's single eluded the cutoff man and went through to home late, which prompted Beyrouty to move to second base. When the catcher's throw skipped into the outfield, Beyrouty chugged around third and in to score the winning run.

The finish capped a pitcher's duel between two of the Shore Conference's top arms - DiPiazza and Barnegat sophomore left-hander Jason Groome. DiPiazza took his third no-decision of the season as a starter, pitching six innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven. Sophomore Ryan Paul pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win in relief.

Groome, meanwhile, allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while punching out eight in 6 1/3 innings. Barnegat jumped out to a 2-0 lead on DiPiazza in the second inning on an RBI single by Matt Owens and an RBI ground out by Matt Wolfgang to plate Conner Hoeler, who also singled in the inning.

Monsignor Donovan 7, Lakewood 6 (8 Innings)

Russ Petranto hit a bases-loaded, walk-off single through a drawn-in infield with none out in the bottom of the eighth, and the Griffins (3-9, 3-5) survived a game-tying three-run blast by junior Jaison Jerez in the top of the seventh to beat the Piners (4-7, 1-6) in extra innings and snap a seven-game skid.

Steve Laziki pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn his first varsity win and went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI at the plate. Petranto also finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Jerez finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored on top of the three RBI.

Non-Conference

Point Beach 17, Academy Charter 1 (5 Innings)

Five different Point Beach players drove in two runs and Jeff Dueful allowed one run on six hits and no walks with seven strikeouts to earn the complete-game win as the Garnet Gulls (6-3) beat Academy Charter.

Antonio Garcia went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Kevin Donnelly and Matt VanNostrand each had a single, two RBI, and three runs scored. Mike Frauenheim and Luke Maas each finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, with Fraunheim stealing three bases as well.

Geno Antongnoli doubled home a run in his only at-bat and Noah Yates finished 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
