The Shore Sports Network is back with our Wrestler of the Week feature for the 2023-2024 season, presented by Thrive Spine & Sports Rehab.

Each week, we will post the nominees for fans to vote and select one overall Shore Conference Wrestler of the Week. The nominees can include both boys and girls wrestlers. The poll will close Friday at 10 p.m..

The Shore Sports Network will also make its own selections for overall conference wrestler of the week along with county selections from Monmouth County and Ocean County.

Here are the nominees for the week of Jan. 15 through Jan. 21.

 

Weeks 5 Shore Conference Wrestler of the Week nominees (listed in alphabetical order)

Logan Acevedo, Sr., Raritan

Acevedo's pin in the final bout gave Raritan a 37-33 victory over Colts Neck that helped vault the Rockets into the latest Shore 16 team rankings. He also won by technical fall when Raritan rallied to beat Morris Knolls, 38-30, at the Shore Conference Showcase Duals at Southern.

 

Caitlin O'Reilly, Jr., Middletown South

O'Reilly won by fall in 1:48 over two-time Greater Middlesex Conference champion Adriana Farese of Old Bridge during the Girls Wrestling Jamboree at Southern.

 

Sawyer Ostroff, Sr., Donovan Catholic

Ostroff won a 6-3 decision over Jackson Liberty state qualifier Tucker Pazinko.

 

Tucker Pazinko, So., Jackson Liberty

Pazinko won a wild 15-14 bout against Freehold Township state qualifier Ryan Dubnik.

 

Matt Smith, Jr., Rumson-Fair Haven

Smith defeated Red Bank Catholic senior Lorenzo Portella, 5-4, during the Bulldogs' dual-meet win over the rival Caseys. Portella was ranked No. 1 in the Shore at heavyweight and placed seventh in the state as a sophomore.

 

Ella Yanuzzelli, Sr., Southern

The Shore Conference Tournament 165-pound champion, Yannuzzelli bumped up to the 185-pound weight class during Southern's Girls Invitational Jamboree and defeated Donovan Catholic's Jade Hahan, the SCT 185-pound champ, with a defensive pin.
