Shore Sports Network Wrestler of the Week: Southern’s Joe Toci

Every week this regular season, Shore Conference wrestling fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Wrestler of the Week on our website, with thousands of votes cast this past week.

The WOW recipient for the week of Jan. 11 through Jan. 17 is Southern senior Joe Toci, who finished seventh at 182 pounds at the power Escape the Rock Tournament at Council Rock South High School in Pennsylvania as part of 5-2 week. Toci reached the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Michael Beard of Malvern Prep, who is ranked No. 7 in the country. Toci was the Rams' top finisher and helped Southern, ranked No. 1 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10, finish 13th out of 47 teams. Toci also won by fall in 34 seconds during Southern's 50-24 victory over Toms River South to remain unbeaten in Class A South. Toci is 10-3 on the season and tied for the team lead in victories.

Toci ran away with the award by receiving nearly 77 percent of the vote. Shore's Brad Smuro was second and Wall's Josh Glantzman was third.
