Shore Conference Tournament

Group 1

Shore Regional 7, Brick Township 3

Senior Ava Agresti could not be stopped, scoring five goals to help Shore Regional secure a spot in the SCT after failing to qualify last season.

“It means a lot to the girls to get in,” Coach George Moutis said. “We have so many new starters this year and we are starting to gel. They played with confidence and that is what we discussed before the game and told them they have the skill and they have the ability.”

Agresti scored her first six minutes in, when she had an open look after receiving a pass from Kiera Greene. She gave Shore Regional a two-goal lead in the 30th minute with another blast that was perfectly placed.

Brick Township was able to get one of those goals back when senior Kiley Groschel beat Shore Regional goalie Sofia Merten when she came out to make the play and Groschel slipped by her to score on the open net.

Less than two minutes later, Shore Regional struck again, this time with junior Mary Creighton scoring her first of two goals in the game to give her team a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

Agresti scored her third goal less than four minutes into the second half and then added her fourth in the 61st minute to make it 5-1.

“It is all mental,” Agresti said. “We all work as a team and I have them every play by my side. It starts with the back line with my sister with our eye contact and our through-balls. If I have the ball, I need confidence and if I am not there mentally my shots probably would not have been there.”

Agresti scored her fifth goal in the 73rd minute of the game to make it 7-2. Senior Desirae Majett scored two goals for Brick Township, with her second coming in the final minute of the game.
