Shore Sports Network Girls Basketball Week 1 Shore 16

1. St. John Vianney (4-0) Previous Rank: 1 - SJV won both games in the Shore Games event over the opening weekend and followed that with two wins against Class A Coastal teams. SJV will travel to Florida over the holiday break and play in the Tampa Bay Invitational against some of the best teams in the country.

2. Red Bank Catholic (4-0) Previous Rank: 2 - RBC starts the season picking up two wins against division teams and two against non-conference opponents. Sophomore Addy Nyemchek has picked up where she left off last year and leading the young Caseys with just over 12 points a game. RBC travels to Delaware for the holiday break and plays against East New York Family Academy.

3. Manasquan (5-0) Previous Rank: 3 - Manasquan won five games in eight days with three coming against top ten teams in the Shore 16. The Warriors defeated No. 5 Trinity Hall, No. 9 Holmdel and No. 4 Ocean in the opening week of the season. Manasquan has five players averaging over 6 points per game. Manasquan travels to Florida to play in the Tampa Bay Invitational and opens up against Mainland (Fla.) in the opening round.  

4. Ocean Township (3-1) Previous Rank: 4 - Ocean showed the Shore Conference this week that it won’t give up no matter what the score is. Trailing by 20 points against No. 3 Manasquan, Ocean cut the deficit to 10 before Manasquan came up with a turnover to end the run. Ocean will be the top seed and favorite in the Blue Devil Holiday Invitational over the holiday break. 

5. Trinity Hall (3-2) Previous Rank: 5 - After dropping their first two games of the season to two of the best teams in New Jersey (Manasquan, Gill St. Bernard's), the Monarchs rebounded and won three straight games. Two of the wins were against top 10 teams in the Shore 16 to start the season. The Monarchs ended the week defeating previously-unbeaten Southern Regional in the opening round of the Score at the Shore. 

6. Rumson-Fair Haven (3-1) Previous Rank: 8 - Rumson once again started the season scheduling several of the top teams in New Jersey. The Bulldogs started the season off defeating Union City, which is just outside the Top 20 in New Jersey, in the Shore Games event. Rumson followed that by defeating Top 20 team Chatham at the HUrban Legends of Jersey event, 59-44. Rumson’s only defeat was to a Trinity Hall team that was not going to start the season 0-3. Rumson is the No. 2 seed in the WOBM Christmas Classic and will play the No. 6 seed Point Boro in the opening round. 

7. St. Rose (3-2) Previous Rank: 6 - St. Rose won three straight games after losing its opening game against state-ranked Paul VI, 58-49. The Purple Roses defeated Paterson Eastside in the HUrban Legends of Jersey event and division rival No. 12 Point Boro, 57-33. St. Rose ended the week losing to Albertus Magnus (N.Y.), 51-37. St. Rose will play in the Kennedy Lady Knights Holiday Showcase against Morristown and in the Holiday Hoopfest against Union City during the holiday break. 

8. Holmdel (3-1) Previous Rank: 9 - Holmdel opened the season with two convincing victories, defeating No. 16 Middletown South and Marlboro. Holmdel lost to No. 3 Manasquan, but rebounded to defeat Neptune with a fourth quarter comeback. 2022 Most Improved Player of the Year Allison Cannon is off to a great start, averaging over 18 points per game. Holmdel will host the Holmdel Holiday Showcase and play Mount St. Mary in the opening round. 

9. Red Bank (1-2) Previous Rank: 7 - After a dominant opening day win that saw Coach John Truhan win his 100th game at Red Bank Regional, the Lady Bucs have dropped two straight entering the holiday break. In a defensive battle, Trinity Hall kept RBR scoreless in the 4th quarter to win, 44-32. RBR lost a close non-conference game to Mount St. Mary, 38-33. RBR is the No. 1 seed in the WOBM Christmas Classic and will play the No. 5 seed Toms River East in the opening round. Red Bank Regional and Rumson will be the favorites in the WOBM tournament. 

10. Ranney (2-2) Previous Rank: 10 - Ranney lost two non-conference games to Blair and Franklin and won two conference games against Long Branch and Matawan. Junior Haley Poser leads the team with just under 17 points per game and junior transfer Emily Cavanaugh has adjusted to her new team, averaging just under 10 points per game. Ranney will play in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase and play St. Thomas Aquinas in the opening round. 

11. Wall (3-0) Previous Rank: 11 - Wall opened the season with three straight wins, including one against division rival No. 11 Point Boro, 61-48. Junior Marisa Amitie scored 14 points in the second half against Point Boro to open the game up for Wall late in the second half. Wall is the No. 4 seed in the WOBM Christmas Classic and plays the No. 8 seed Toms River North in the opening round. Wall defeated TRN, 62-24, in their first game of the season. 

12. Jackson Memorial (3-0) Previous Rank: 13 - Sophomore Isabella Finer drained two free-throws in the closing seconds to help Jackson Memorial squeak by Woodbury and start the season 3-0. The Lady Jags have four sophomores and one freshman leading the team in scoring with freshman Cali Brown leading the way with 11.6 points per game. Jackson Memorial will play in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase during the holiday break and open up against Hudson Catholic.

13. Manchester (3-1) Previous Rank: 14 - Manchester made a statement in the opening week that it is one of the top teams in Ocean County. The Hawks defeated division rival Barnegat, 68-28, and handed Toms River East their first loss of the season 58-44. Senior Devyn Quigley started the season just like she finished last year, averaging 33.75 points per game. Manchester will be the No. 3 seed in the WOBM Christmas Classic and play Middletown South in the opening round.

14. Point Pleasant Boro (2-2) Previous Rank: 12 - Point Boro won their opening two games of the season, but then dropped two games in their division who were ranked above them in the Shore 16, No. 6 St. Rose and No. 11 Wall. The Panthers will play in the WOBM Christmas Classic, where they earned the No. 6 seed and play the No. 2 seed Rumson in the opening round.

15. Howell (2-1) Previous Rank: Not ranked - Howell won two games in the opening week, including a game against No. 16 Middletown South, 45-39. Howell will be playing in the Blue Devil Holiday Invitational over the holiday break, where the Rebels could meet No. 4 Ocean in the finals.

16. Southern (4-1) Previous Rank: Not ranked - Southern is off to its best start since the 2019-20 season, going 4-1 with the only loss to No. 5 Trinity Hall on Saturday in the opening round of the Score at the Shore Tournament. The Rams won their first four games and handed division rival Brick Memorial its first loss of the season. Junior Casey Collins is averaging 17 points a game to start the season.
