Week 2


1. St. John Vianney (6-1) Previous Rank: 1 - SJV went 2-1 over the holiday break, dropping their opening game to Cardinal Mooney (FL) 53-50 and rebounding to defeat Somerset Prep (FL) and St. Vincent Pallotti (MD) in the Tampa Bay Invitational. Sophomore Stella Lockhart continues to play well against the country’s best teams as she averaged a double-double with 14.6 PPG and 10 RPG. After a long week in Florida, SJV only has one game this week against Point Boro. 


2. Red Bank Catholic (6-1) Previous Rank: 2 -.RBC went 2-0 in the Viking Invitational defeating East New York Family (NY) and Archbishop Wood (PA) for the championship. Junior Christina Liggio was named MVP averaging 13.5 PPG and 3 APG. RBC ended the week falling to Westtown (PA) 67-47. RBC travels to No. 4 Ocean Township on Wednesday and Mount St. Mary on Saturday.  Sunday they play Morris Catholic, who is ranked No. 1 in New Jersey, at Brookdale Community College. 


3. Manasquan (7-1) Previous Rank: 3 - Manasquan won 7 straight games to start the season, including the first two in the Tampa Bay Invitational. The Warriors defeated both Mill Creek (GA) and Bolles (FL) by 15 points during the holiday break. Manasquan lost to Colonial (FL) in the final game 52-43. Senior Kate Collins averaged 15.3 PPG and Hope Masonius averaged 17 PPG in Florida. Manasquan plays Freehold Boro on Thursday and Gill St. Bernard Sunday at Brookdale Community College. 

4. Ocean Township (5-1) Previous Rank: 4 - Ocean rebounded from their loss to No. 3 Manasquan by running through the Blue Devil Holiday Invitational. They repeated as champions by defeating previously No. 15 Howell in the final 51-30. Junior Kayden Clark was named MVP after scoring a career-high 24 points in the semifinal. Ocean has a long week ahead, hosting No. 2 RBC on Wednesday, Point Pleasant Beach on Thursday and No. 7 Wall on Saturday. Sunday they play No. 8 St. Rose at Brookdale Community College.

5. Trinity Hall (4-3) Previous Rank: 5 - After losing their first two games of the season, Trinity Hall won four straight games including No. 16 Southern and state ranked Cherokee in the Score at the Shore Event. Trinity Hall fell to state ranked Mainland in the finals 39-30. Trinity Hall travels to Franklin on Tuesday and Middletown South on Friday. On Sunday they face St. Thomas Aquinas at Brookdale Community College. 

6. Red Bank Regional (4-2) Previous Rank: 9 - RBR went 3-0 to win the WOBM Christmas Classic and rebound from a 1-2 start to the season. As the No. 1 seed, the Bucs defeated Toms River East 44-37, Manchester 59-31 and Wall in the final 54-51. Junior Caroline Polloway has made an early statement for Most Improved Player of the Year with an MVP performance in the tournament. RBR only has one game this week and travels to No. 14 Howell on Friday.

7. Wall (5-1) Previous Rank: 11 - Wall is the biggest mover this week jumping four spots after making it to the WOBM Christmas Classic Final. In the opening round they defeated Toms River North 53-26 and defeated previously ranked No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 45-30. Wall fell short in the finals to RBR, losing 54-51 in a game that came down to the last possession. Wall has a busy week and travels to play No. 12 Manchester on Tuesday and hosts Long Branch on Friday. Wall travels to No. 4 Ocean Township on Saturday for another big test.

8. St. Rose (5-2) Previous Rank: 7 - St. Rose went 2-0 over the Holiday break in the Holiday Hoopfest. The Purple Roses defeated Morristown 51-25 and Union City 52-47. Sophomore Jada Lynch averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two games for St. Rose. St. Rose has three games this week with two of them against top ten Shore 16 teams. Tuesday they host No. 9 Rumson and Sunday they play No. 4 Ocean Township at Brookdale Community College. Thursday the Purple Roses travel to Raritan. 

9. Rumson-Fair Haven (5-2) Previous Rank: 6 - Rumson went 2-1 in the WOBM Christmas Classic, falling to Wall in the semifinal round. Rumson had a big second half to defeat Point Boro in the opening round and defeated Manchester in the consolation round 59-46 in a game they controlled from the 1st quarter. Sophomore Erin Reid had just over 10 PPG and grabbed 7 RPG in the tournament. Rumson travels to  No. 8 St. Rose on Tuesday and is home to Marlboro on Friday and Shore Regional on Saturday. 

10. Holmdel (4-2) Previous Rank: 8 - Holmdel went 1-1 in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase, defeating Mount St. Mary the opening day and falling just short to St. Thomas Aquinas 56-53 in the second game. Senior Allison Cannon continues to play like an All-Shore player, averaging 14 PPG in the tournament. Junior Michelle Steele filled the state sheet, averaging 13 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 5 APG in the event. Holmdel hosts Toms River North on Tuesday and travels to No. 11 Ranney on Friday. 

11. Ranney (3-3) Previous Rank: 10 - Ranney played in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase where they went 1-1 in the event. They lost their opening game to St. Thomas Aquinas 57-47 and rebounded to defeat Hudson Catholic 59-42 in their second game.  Junior Haley Poser was named to the All-Showcase Selections, averaging 22.5 points per game. Ranney hosts No. 10 Holmdel on Friday in their only game this week. 

12. Manchester (4-3) Previous Rank: 14 - Manchester won their opening round game in the WOBM Christmas Classic against Middletown South 56-24 but then dropped their next two games. They fell to the No. 1 seed Red Bank Regional in the semifinal round 59-31 and then to Rumson in the consolation round. This week does not get any easier as they host No. 7 Wall on Tuesday and travel to Southern on Thursday.

13. Point Pleasant Boro (4-3) Previous Rank: 14 - After dropping their opening round game in the WOBM Christmas Classic to Rumson 51-28, Point Boro won their next two consolation games against Toms River North 61-29 and Toms River East 49-45. Point Boro has a busy week traveling to Jackson Liberty on Tuesday and hosting No. 14 Howell on Wednesday and No. 1 St. John Vianney on Friday.

14. Howell (3-2) Previous Rank: 15 - Howell won their opening game in the Blue Devil Holiday Invitational against Monmouth Regional 58-29 but fell to No. 4 Ocean Township in the finals 51-30. Sophomore Veronica Nieves was named to the All-Tournament Team averaging 8 PPG and having 7 assists in the semifinal against Monmouth. Howell plays three challenging games this week starting with No. 13 Point Boro on Wednesday. Friday they host No. 6 Red Bank Regional and Saturday they travel to Toms River East.

15. Jackson Memorial (4-1) Previous Rank: 12 - The Lady Jags played in the Holmdel Holiday Showcase going 1-1, defeating Hudson Catholic 50-43 in the opening round. Jackson Memorial was handed their first defeat of the season, losing to East Brunswick 54-42. Freshman Cali Brown was named to the All-Showcase Selection, averaging 17 points per game in the event. Jackson Memorial hosts Manalapan on Wednesday and travels to Pinelands on Thursday in non-divisional games. Saturday they host Cinnaminson in a non-conference game.


16. Neptune (5-3) Previous Rank: Unranked - Neptune played in the West Windsor-Plainsboro North Tournament over the holiday break and went 2-1 losing in the championship game. They defeated South Hunterdon and West Windsor-Plainsboro South in the first two rounds until falling to Somerville in the final, 59-29. Christa Ramos continues her great start to the season, averaging 17 PPG in the tournament. Neptune will host Marlboro on Wednesday and Matawan on Friday and travel to Manalapan on Saturday for non-divisional games.
