The Basketball Player of the Week has been a staple of Shore Sports Network's coverage over the years and we have always left it up to the fans to decide the winner -- and still do. Now, SSN is recognizing its own choices for Player of the Week, not just in the Shore Conference, but in Monmouth and Ocean Counties individually.

You can still pick the Player of the Week in the Thrive Fan Vote and in the meantime, check out SSN's picks for Week 1 (Dec. 14 through Dec. 23). The Week 2 picks will be posted by early next week and we will pick up with the regular schedule at the beginning of Week 3 next week.

Collins helped Southern get out to their best start since the 2018-2019 season, winning their first four games of the season. During that stretch she averaged 13.25 points per game which included tying her career-high of 27 points on opening night against Allentown.

Being player of the week does not just mean you score a lot of points, you have to perform on both sides of the floor and Collins does both. In the second game of the season against Freehold Boro she scored 17 points and set a career-high with 6 steals in the game. Collins averaged 3 steals per game in the first four games of the season.

Southern battled division rival Brick Memorial, who was also undefeated at 3-0, before the holiday tournaments began and Collins was held to 9 points, but she set another career-high with 6 assists in the game. Southern defeated Brick Memorial 54-30 and put them in first place in Class A South.

Each Ocean County Player of the Week will receive a $10 gift card courtesy of Surf Taco.
