Class A Central

Monmouth 3, Holmdel 1

Fifth-year senior Aiden Denton lost his bid for a no-hitter with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but still finished off a 15-strikeout one-hitter as the Falcons completed a sweep of the Hornets.

Denton completed six innings without allowing a hit, walk or hit batter, with Holmdel's lone baserunner reaching on an error in the second inning. That streak ended when Denton hit senior Tim Haggerty with a pitch with one out and after a groundout moved Haggerty to second base, junior James Vallillo singled to break up the no-hit bid and score Holmdel's lone run.

Monmouth opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, with senior Joey Esposito leading off with a single, stealing second base and scoring on an error. Sophomore Alejandro Ocelotl added a second run with a two-out RBI double.

Fifth-year senior Christian Zito provided an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
