Shore Conference Tournament
Quarterfinals

(25) St. John Vianney 4, (1) Toms River South 2

Four different St. John Vianney players scored a goal and the Lancers rolled through the top-seeded Indians to reach the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, according to 13-year head coach Brian Grimm. As the No. 25 seed, St. John Vianney is also the highest seeded team to ever reach the semifinals

Senior Alex Politi scored in the 13th minute off a long pass ahead from Vinny Durso to open the scoring, a lead the Lancers would not give up. Senior Savin Eugenio added to the lead in the 31st by beating a defender along the end-line and bending a shot from a difficult angle into the goal.

Toms River South senior Jordan Urbaczek hammered in a rebound in the 35th to pull Toms River South within 2-1, but the Lancers scored the next two goals to put the game away. Marc Urbealis broke free of the defense, running down a long diagonal pass in the air from Michael Clancy and finishing from the right side in the 54th minute. Politi later drew a takedown in the box in the 66th and Christian Bruno converted the penalty kick to give Vianney a commanding 4-1 lead on the tournament's top seed.

Ryan Casey converted a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box to make it 4-2 in the 76th.

St. John Vianney will play No. 4 Wall Thursday at 7 p.m. in the SCT semifinals at Memorial Field in Neptune.

(2) Manalapan 2, (7) Jackson Memorial 1

Senior defender Jordan Vance punched in the game-winning goal in the 74th minute and the Braves survived a quarterfinal battle with the Jaguars to advance to their second straight SCT semifinals after winning the tournament last year.

With the score tied at 1, senior Rob Pratka was first to a corner kick by Ryan Hammer and touched it to Vance for the finish. Jackson Memorial had tied the game in the 65th minute on a penalty kick by senior Brian Scheno, his second straight game with a goal after scoring his first varsity goal on a penalty kick on Saturday against Matawan.

Manalapan opened the scoring in the 52nd minute on a goal by junior Joe Ahn, a 25-yard strike to the upper part of the netting.

Manalapan will play Shore Conference Class A North division rival and No. 11 Freehold Township in Thursday'ss first semifinal, scheduled for 5 p.m. at Memorial Field in Neptune. Manalapan won the first meeting, 2-0, and the teams played to a scoreless draw in the more recent match.

(11) Freehold Twp. 1, (14) Marlboro 0

Senior Mike Staklinski scored off a Mike Maltese corner kick three minutes into the second half and the Freehold Township defense made it stand up as the Patriots beat the upstart Mustangs to advance to the SCT semifinals for the first time since winning the tournament in 2008.

Maltese's corner kick bounced inside the six-yard box and right to Staklinski, who tapped it in for the lone score of the game. Staklinski and fellow senior Chase Berkowitz again helped anchor a shutout in front of senior goalkeeper Brian Shushkovsky, the Patriots' fourth straight shutout and third of the tournament.

Freehold Township will play No. 2 and defending champion Manalapan in Thursday's first semifinal game at 5 p.m. at Memorial Field in Neptune. Freehold Township has already played two Class A North rivals - CBA and Marlboro - en route to the semifinal and opened the tournament against Colts Neck, which moved to Class B North this season after playing in A North last year.

(4) Wall 2, (5) Shore 1

Sophomore Dan Frisch-Harmon and senior Joe Tashjy scored within the first 15 minutes of play and the Crimson Knights hung on to hand the Blue Devils their first loss against a Shore Conference Tournament team while also advancing to their first SCT semifinal since 2005.

Shore sophomore Dante Montesinos scored in the last minute of the first half to pull his team within 2-1 by halftime, but the Crimson Knights defense, with the help of a key save by Jack Wishart, held off the Blue Devils during the final 40 minutes.

Wall will play No. 25 St. John Vianney in the second semifinal Thursday night at Memorial Field in Neptune after the Lancers stunned No. 1 Toms River South on Tuesday afternoon in Toms River.
