Thrive Fan Vote Week 3 Shore Conference Player of the Week

Jason McKelvey, Toms River East

The Raiders entered last week on a two-game skid with two quality opponents on the schedule and made it out of the week 1-1. McKelvey showed up in a big way for both games, averaging 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists between the two games – one a win over Lacey and the other a loss to Howell.

Given Lacey's quality schedule to open the season, the Lions were a good test for Toms River East, even if not an ideal opponent for a team trying to get back in the win column after a couple of losses in a row. The Raiders came through with a big win, led by McKelvey's 19 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The follow-up to the Lacey win was a road trip to Howell -- another team that has faced challenging competition. The Rebels handled Toms River East, 70-49, but McKelvey had another strong outing with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

McKelvey easily won this week's fan vote with 44 percent of the vote, but the second-place race was as close as can be. Christian Brothers Academy's Justin Fuerbacher and Manalapan freshman Joe Farino tied for runner-up with 14.5 percent of the vote and Central standout Jaycen Santucci also cracked double-digits with 10 percent.

As the fan's choice for Player of the Week, McKelvey will receive a free recovery session courtesy of Thrive.
