Senior Mike Schiatarella pitched six one-hit innings with six strikeouts to lead the Rams (2-2) to a win over the Golden Eagles (0-3).

Senior A.J. Mandell rapped a two-run double in the third inning and sophomore Xavier Hendricks added an RBI double in the sixth to spark the Southern offense.

Williamstown 3, Brick Memorial 2

Junior Nick Gillen fell victim to three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Mustangs (1-2) fell to the Braves (2-1). Gillen allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four and throwing 58 pitches in taking the hard-luck loss.

Senior Torrey Savoia took care of the final two innings on 35 pitches, in which he allowed one hit and three walks while striking out two.

Gillen, senior Mike Murphy and senior Graham Harrigan each went 1-for-3 with Murphy driving in a run and Harrigan hitting a double. Senior T.J. Rosace also went 1-for-2 with a run scored for Brick Memorial.

 

At Toms River South

No. 8 Toms River South 6, Lacey 5

Senior Matt Hartshorn went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI to lead the Indians (1-2) over the Lions (0-3) for their first win of the season.

Senior Gabe Driscoll worked 6 1/3 innings for the win, with senior Colin Mackle taking over with the bases loaded, one out in the seventh and Toms River South holding a 6-2 lead. Mackle put out the fire before Lacey could tie it to record the save.

Driscoll allowed five earned runs on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts while tossing 102 pitches.

Junior Mike Montenegro was 2-for-3 with an RBI, junior Max Rivas 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI and senior Conover 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored for Toms River South.

Senior Jorden Jurkiewicz went 2-for-2 with three RBI, including a two-run homer in the top of the first to stake Lacey to a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Brandon DeAngelo was 2-for-4 with two doubles, senior Miles Feaster was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and senior Garrett Reilly and sophomore Matt Kaliske each finished 1-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

Sophomore Nick Zarycki pitched four no-hit innings, allowing one earned run on one walk with four strikeouts on 65 pitches.

Senior Jack Kinsella broke up a no-hit bid by RBC senior Vincent Bianchi with a game-tying single in the top of the fifth and junior Anthony Esposito broke the tie with an RBI single in a four-run sixth that propelled the Eagles past the Caseys.

Red Bank Catholic brought the go-ahead run to the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh but winning pitcher senior Jack Lisowski recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the game and earn the win in relief of starter senior Jack Roesch.

Junior Ramon Fontanes went 3-for-5 with four RBI to continue his hot start and back freshman starter Tyler Villa as the Mustangs (1-2) beat the Lions (1-2) for the first win in the coaching career of first-year skipper Craig Helfgott.

Fontanes has produced a Shore-Conference-leading 11 RBI in only three games for Marlboro.

Villa allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings and 72 pitches of work.

Sophomore Mark Capell went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, senior Anthony Brienza was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and senior Justin Kapuscinski went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Josh Schleifman also doubled, scored two runs and drove in two.

Junior Michael Roditis went 2-for-3 with a run scored and junior Ryan Rozinski doubled home Middletown North's lone run.

Junior Sam Young fired a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and one walk to lead the Panthers (2-1) to a win over the Chargers (2-2). The no-hitter is the third at the Shore this season - all of them coming in game's shortened by the 10-run rule.

Young needed only 72 pitches to polish off the accomplishment and also starred at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Junior Ryan Jasaitis also went 3-for-3 with an RBI and junior Nick Guzzi was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI for Point Boro.

Toms River East 8, Barnegat 3

Senior Logan Sommerer hit a go-ahead two-run single as part of a seven-run sixth inning that catapulted the Raiders (3-0) to a come-from-behind win over the Bengals (2-2).

Seniors Mark Murtha and Tyler Toth each added an RBI single in the inning, sophomore Aidan Meola doubled home a run, and junior Ryan Ciccardo singled twice during the rally, including an RBI single to cap the scoring in the sixth.

Murtha and Cicardo each finished 2-for-4, with Murtha driving in two runs, and Sommerer and junior Matt Santos each went 2-for-3. Santos started the rally with a double.

Senior Brandon Coyle recorded the final two outs of the top of the sixth inning to earn the win, backing up junior starter Reece Miller. Santos pitched a clean seventh inning to close out the win.

Senior Tyler Suydam pitched into the sixth inning and was charged with three runs to take the no-decision. The right-hander allowed six hits and a walk while striking out five. Senior Dexter Dombroski took the loss for Barnegat.

Senior Brian Finucan went 2-for-3 with an RBI during Barnegat's three-run first inning. Sophomore Nick Danbrowney also drove in a run during the inning and senior David MacGillvray doubled and scored during the first.

St. Augustine 5, Toms River North 4

Toms River North (2-1) brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but fell to the powerhouse Hermits (4-0).

Senior Alex Civitello led the bottom of the seventh off with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single by senior pinch-hitter Kyle Dietze to keep the game going and bring up senior Sam Angelo - the team's top returning hitter - as the potential winning run. Angelo grounded out to first base to end the game.

Senior Dylan Feigin was 1-for-1 with a triple, a pair of walks and a run scored while junior Jacob Dawson was 1-for-2 with an RBI to highlight Toms River North at the plate.

St. Augustine scored four runs in the first two innings off Toms River North senior starter Christian Wood, including a two-run home run by senior Gerry Peacock in the second inning. Sophomore Russ Thistle pitched four scoreless, one-hit innings for the Mariners before junior Kenny Levari launched a solo home run in the seventh for what proved to be a crucial insurance run.

 

At St. Rose Athletic Complex

No. 2 Wall 5, St. Rose 2 (9 Innings)

Senior Grant Shulman pitched for the third time this week and made himself a winner by delivering a two-run double in Wall's three-run ninth - enough for the Crimson Knights to deny the Purple Roses in their upset bid.

Shulman pitched the seventh inning to earn the save in Wall's season-opening win vs. St. John Vianney, pitched two innings for their save on Thursday vs. the Lancers and kicked it up a notch with three scoreless innings on Saturday.

St. Rose tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with RBI singles by seniors Jeff DeFazio and Evan Peeke off Wall starter Teddy Sharkey, who helped his cause with two doubles and an RBI at the plate.

Junior right-hander Pat Reilly struck out 16 and walked none while pitching a two-hit shutout in his first varsity start as the Colts (2-1) blanked the Redbirds (2-2).

Senior Tommy DiTullio and junior Anthony Celestre each went 2-for-3, with DiTullio driving in a run and Celestre doubling and scoring one. Senior Connor Baksh also tripled and drove in two for CBA.

 

At St. John Vianney

No. 10 Howell 9, Holmdel 1

Senior Kyle Brex, senior Ryan Bearse and sophomore Chris Ellison each collected three hits and the Rebels (2-2) topped the Hornets (0-3) thanks to a 16-hit attack that came to life in the fifth inning.

Brex was 3-for-4 with three RBI, Bearse was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, and Ellison finished 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs and two RBI. Sophomore Antonio Gatti also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and junior Chris Acampora was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in the win.

Howell broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the top of the fifth, with Acampora leading the inning off with a double and scoring on a go-ahead RBI single by Brex. Bearse followed with a single, senior Robert Gonzalez plated Brex with a sacrifice play and Ellison plated Bearse with an RBI double.

Sophomore Vin Impressa earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, during which he allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three on 66 pitches. Senior Logan Marmer and senior John Morgan each threw two innings before turning the game over the Impressa.

Seniors Ezra Caspi and Aidan Flanagan each went 2-for-3 for Holmdel, with Caspi doubling and driving in Holmdel's only run. Senior Alec Licato lasted 4 2/3 innings and 81 pitches on the mound in taking the loss. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.

Rumson-Fair Haven 7, St. John Vianney 1

Sophomore Andrew Schmid went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and the Bulldogs (2-1) broke through against the bullpen to beat the Lancers (0-3).

Freshman Michael Amendola earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of work and did not allow a run until the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Thomas Elgrim went 2-for-4 with an RBI, freshman Brian Doughty was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs and freshman Matt Rigby was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Sophomore Ryan Sekman allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five over three innings for St. John Vianney in taking the loss. Freshman Rocko Brzezniak was 1-for-3 with the lone RBI for the Lancers.
