Seniors Anthony Pozsonyi (160) and Ryan Demian (Hwt) and junior Frank Leonardis (170) each recorded pins as the Rebels (1-0, 1-0) began their quest for a 10th straight division title by routing the Colonials (0-1, 0-1).

Senior Cliff Ruggiero's pin of Dylan DaSilva at 170 pounds capped a five-bout winning streak that included three straight wins by fall as the Mustangs dominated the middle weights in a season-opening win over the Mariners. Sophomores Gianni Ghione (120) and Nick Rivera (Hwt), and seniors Luis Bocalman (126), Alec Donovan (152) and Rob Ruggiero (160) also recorded pins.

Junior Alex Johnson by fall at 152 pounds to begin the season 4-0 with four pins as the Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0) topped the Blue Bishops (0-1, 0-1).

 

Class B South

The Panthers (1-0, 1-0) won nine of 12 contested bouts, including five pins, to open their division schedule with a victory over the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1). Senior 132 Dan Nobbs improved to 4-1 with a pin and junior Gene Franceschini moved to 3-1 with a fall at 170. Pinelands seniors Tom Poklikuha (152) and Mike Heck (113) each improved to 3-1 with wins by fall.

 

Nondivisional

The Cougars (1-0) won by fall in seven of their eight victories in contested bouts to cruise to a nonconference win over the Titans (0-1). Five of the pins came in the first period, including a fall in 18 seconds by sophomore Ben Sammarco at 120 pounds. Keansburg Senior Tyree Sutton, the sixth-place finisher at 195 pounds in last season's state tournament, improved to 4-0 with a pin at 220 pounds. Dan Bauman also won by fall at heavyweight for the Titans.

 

Nonconference

The Dragons (1-0) won 10 of 13 contested bouts and recorded seven pins to open the season with authority against the visiting Lions (0-1). Seniors Will Scott (160), Kyle Wojtaszek (170) and Dean Sherry (195) all won by fall to improved to 4-0.

 

The Garnet Gulls (1-0) won eight of 11 contested bouts to dominate the visiting Hawks (0-1). Point Beach had six wrestlers win by fall, including first-period pins by senior Jake Fioretti at 182 pounds, freshman Aiden Kelly at 113 and junior John FInnerty at 132.
