Every week this spring, WindMill Restaurants and Shore Sports Network will be teaming up to select a Lacrosse Team of the Week based on its performance over the past week.

The WindMill Girls Lacrosse Team of the Week is Rumson-Fair Haven, which took back the Shore Conference Tournament title by defeating rival Red Bank Regional, 9-7, to win a record 10th SCT title. Shore Sports Network stopped by practice last week to present the Bulldogs and head coach Amy O'Keefe with a Team of the Week certificate and a WindMill gift card.

Rumson had its record-setting streak of eight consecutive SCT championships snapped in 2022 but the Bulldogs weren't down for long, returning to Monmouth University this season and regaining their title as the top girls lacrosse team in the Shore. Standing in their way was their Ridge Road rivals, Red Bank.

The game was tied 1-1 10 minutes into the first half before a goal by sophomore Rachel James jump-started a seven-goal surge that gave Rumson a 7-2 halftime lead. The Bucs, behind standout senior midfielder Paige Kelly, mounted a comeback to pull within two goals in the second half. Kelly scored all five of her goals in the second half, including three straight that cut Rumson's lead to 8-6 with 15:03 left in the game. Goals by Rachel James and Elliot Van Nice and some clutch saves by goalie Kayse Kiernan helped Rumson hang on for a 9-7 victory and the program's 10th conference crown.

James scored three goals and added one assist, Abby Boyle scored twice, and Kiernan made six saves for Rumson. Daisen Iwan had a goal and three assists while Van Nice, Paige Cecil, and Payton Haley had one goal each.

Rumson earned the No. 1 seed for the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 state playoffs and opened the tournament with a 15-4 victory over Point Beach. The Bulldogs will host eighth-seeded Bernards this afternoon.
