Every week this spring, WindMill Restaurants and Shore Sports Network will be selecting a Boys Lacrosse Team of the Week based on its performance over the past week.

The WindMill Team of the Week for Week 3 (April 15 to April 21) is Freehold Township, which went 3-0 and earned a key win over St. John Vianney in a Top 10 showdown. Shore Sports Network was at practice this week to present the Patriots and head coach Ryan Eichner with a special certificate and a $300 WindMill gift card.

On Thursday, April 18, Freehold Township played its most complete game of the season to earn a 7-4 victory over St. John Vianney. The Patriots came into the game ranked No. 9 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 while St. John Vianney was ranked No. 7. Senior midfielder Matt Kondrup led the offense with four goals while senior goalie Aidan Purcell made 10 saves behind a strong defensive effort led by Evan Nastarowicz, Joel Maragoto and Evan Savino. Brendan Doel added one goal and one assist while Kyle Von Nessen and Nick Elimanco each scored once. It was a much-needed win for the Patriots, who had suffered close losses to Wall, Middletown South and Howell.

Freehold Township entered last week with a sub-.500 record but evened its season mark with a 15-4 win over district rival Marlboro. Doel had four goals and two assists to reach 100 career points, Jake Liebross added three goals and two assists while Kondrup and Von Nessen each scored twice. Elimanco had one goal and one assist and Matt Madonna, Ryan Tanner and John Vitale scored one goal apiece. Purcell made five saves.

The Patriots closed out their perfect week with an 11-3 win over Long Branch. Liebross tallied three goals and two assists and Kondrup notched three goals and one assist. Doel added two goals and one assist while Madonna, Vitale and Justin Davis each scored once. Elimanco chipped in with two assists and Purcell (two saves) and Tim Spagnolia (six saves) split time in goal.

Freehold Township has posted victories over West Windsor-Plainsboro South and Colts Neck this week to push its winning streak to five games. The Patriots play Brick on Friday and have a game next week with No. 4 Shore Regional.
