CLASS A NORTH
Junior Ronny Ghaida won by fall in the first period at 152 pounds to improve to 22-2 and help the Braves (12-7, 4-3) take down the Eagles (8-9, 3-4). Senior Joe Thompson improved to 21-4 with a 10-1 major decision over Louis Avena (18-7) at 160 pounds.
Middletown South senior Brendan Rumsby returned after missing the last five matches and won by fall to improve to 15-3.
CLASS A SOUTH
No. 1 Southern 62, Brick 3 (Southern clinches Class A South title)
Teddy Caporino, Connor Scully, Joe Miele, Zachary Weldenhof, Matt Barnett and Mike Racanelli all recorded pins as the Rams (10-1, 7-0) won 13 of 14 bouts to roll past the Dragons (8-7, 4-3) and lock up their second division title in the last three seasons
Brick junior Dean Helstowski defeated Peyton Blauvelt 4-3 at 170 pounds to improve to 21-0.
CLASS B SOUTH
NONDIVISIONAL
A pin by sophomore Josiah Walker at 170 pounds with four bouts left helped the Lancers (12-6) stun the Jaguars (13-4) for their first win over the Ocean County powerhouse since at least the early 1980s, according to head coach Denny D'Andrea. Junior Jack McLafferty also had a crucial pin when he hit a spladle on Mike Christie for a fall at 138 pounds.
Senior Khalil Haskins edged Tim Hamann 3-2 in a marquee matchup at 145 pounds. Haskins (16-1) is ranked third at 138 pounds and Hamann (18-2) is second at 145 (by theshoreconference.com). Senior Calvin Beaty defeated Adante Davis 5-0 in the second-to-last bout, and Jacob White avoided giving up bonus points in the final bout at 220 pounds to help the Lancers secure the big win.
Junior Micah Clark defeated Austin Ostrander 3-1 in sudden victory at heavyweight to begin the match. Luck Eckloff also won by fall at 106 pounds and Nick Caracappa defeated Jay Epperly 4-1 at 152.
Mike Spino improved to 15-1 for Jackson Memorial.
The Rockets (15-4) picked up a solid victory over an undermanned Crimson Knights (15-2) squad as they gear up for the state tournament. Senior Nick Bohal at 160 and freshman Charles Barrale at 106 pounds each won by fall for Raritan.
Wall was without five starters, including seniors Joe Demuner (19-4, ranked No. 1 at 126 pounds) and Josh Glantzman (19-3, ranked No. 1 at 160 pounds) due to the flu, according to head coach Brian Fischer. Starting 113-pounder Mike Rocha, starting 138-pounder Josiah Schucht and starting heavyweight Darryl Valme were also out. Valme is ranked No. 8 at heavyweight.
Senior Tim Kelmser (26-1) won by fall at 120 pounds for his 100th career win to lead the Blue Devils (17-5) past the Patriots (8-12).
