Tyler Tweedie’s Win in Final Bout Gives Point Boro Walk-Off Win over Rival Point Beach

POINT PLEASANT BOROUGH -- Given the size of the crowd, the tenacity of the student sections and the overall sensational atmosphere that embodied Friday night's match between Point Boro and Point Beach, it's only fitting the match was the decided in the final minute of the final bout.

A 3-2 victory by senior Tyler Tweedie in the final, winner-take-all bout at 120 pounds gave the host Panthers a heart-stopping 31-26 win over the Garnet Gulls inside a jam-packed gym at Memorial Middle School. Tweedie snapped a 1-1 tie with a takedown at the 55-second mark of the third period and held on to best Jesse Bowers for the deciding victory.

Tweedie's victory extended Point Boro's winning streak in the series, as Point Beach's last win came in 1998. The teams split bouts 7-7, but it was the bonus points gained by the Panthers that made the difference. John McTaggert and Ryan Sansone came up with clutch pins at 145 and 170 pounds, respectively, while Ben Sabo won by fall at 113 to set up Tweedie for the deciding bout. Spencer Robinson won by major decision at 138 pounds.

Point Beach rallied to take a 26-22 lead with three straight wins from 220 to 106. Nick Kenmure edged Gabe Fattizzi, 3-2 in ultimate tiebreaker, at 220 pounds and Cade Watkins  scored a reversal just before the buzzer to clip Anthony Bonavito, 5-4, at heavyweight. Will Jarvis followed with an 8-0 major decision over James Latendorf at 106.
