After a year serving as an assistant at Caldwell University John Truhan is back in the Shore Conference after being named this week as the new girl’s basketball coach at Red Bank Regional. Truhan was appointed by the Board of Education to fill the spot vacated by James Young who is now part of the coaching staff at Monmouth University. The Bucs went 17-10 last season but lost many of their top players to graduation.

Truhan has previously served as the head girls coach at Toms River South (1999-2003), Colts Neck(2004-2009) and Central Regional (2009-2016), compiling a record of 324-141 over 18 seasons. He has earned numerous Coach of the Year awards, division and conference titles and guided Colts Neck to the Tournament of Champions finals in 2009 and in 2015 was inducted into the NJSCA Hall of Fame. Last winter he was an assistant at Caldwell where the Cougars won a school-record 25 games and earned their first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Known around the shore as “JT” he said in a press release, “I am a good friend of James Young, who did an outstanding job at revitalizing the program at RBR and I am looking forward to continuing that progress.” Truhan teaches honors math at Central and lives in Bayville with his wife Kim and children Kristi and John John.
