Darian Barnes is unlike most people who will sit down on Sunday to watch Super Bowl LV.

The former Toms River North standout knows what it’s like to play in the “ultimate game” because he did. Barnes was a rookie free agent who caught on with Tampa Bay during the 2002 season and was on the field when they beat the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. He would go on and play parts of seven seasons with six other teams and later returned to the Shore area as an assistant coach at his alma mater and later as the head coach at Colts Neck. The 40-year old keeps busy as a teacher in North Jersey and as the father of four daughters, and I talked with him about his Super Bowl memories and more.
