From Special Guest Contributor Heather DeConde:

A record number of fans from Lacey and Toms River came out for the final game of the Ocean County AAA Summer Slam Championships at the Jim Gibbons field at Toms River East Little League last night.

Coach David DeConde and Coach Tom Scannicchio from the Toms River All Star Team were quoted saying that "We were lucky to have coached a great group of boys."  Connor Kerrigan was the final pitcher in the bottom of the 6th inning to hold a bases loaded victory and held Lacey at 13-9.  Fans in the crowd were chanting and cheering on both teams.  Gloria and Jim Lapsley, long time residents from Toms River, said "This was more exciting than going to a major league game!  We are so proud of our town and TRELL for supporting such a nurturing program."

So many coaches and little leaguers were found gripping the fence to watch their past players give it their all.  A huge thank you to Coaches Bob and Amy Sabatino for running the tournament.  They celebrated their 9th anniversary at the field last night.  There’s nothing like a summer baseball game that brought all the fans back to a place in their own hearts when they were little and played….for the love of the GAME!
