The 2014-15 Shore Conference scholastic sports season ended on a huge high note as Christian Brothers Academy blanked previously undefeated Don Bosco Prep, ranked No. 9 in the country, to win the NJSIAA Non-Public A title on Saturday.

It capped a magical season for the Colts, who became the second team in Shore Conference history after the 2004 Wall squad to win the Quintuple Crown of division, county, conference, sectional and Group titles. Junior Luca Dalatri pitched the most dazzling game of his brilliant career, tossing a four-hitter and striking out 12 in a 7-0 win against one of the best lineups in New Jersey.

Don Bosco had given up one run in 17 innings in the state tournament and Seton Hall-bound starter Cullen Dana had a 0.23 ERA coming into the game but CBA junior star Brandon Martorano belted a two-run shot off him in the first inning and the Colts just rolled from there.

Dalatri's command for his age is incredible. He puts the ball on the money almost every time and Martorano barely has to move the glove. You can teach a pitcher to throw harder, but teaching the type of command Dalatri already has is something players in professional baseball struggle to achieve.

He constantly had the Ironmen biting on his high fastball after starting with strikes at the knees, and he kept changing up his pattern so that Don Bosco could never get comfortable. His career stats are ridiculous, especially for a junior: 25-2 with a 0.77 ERA, 252 strikeouts, 32 walks and 107 hits allowed in 182 2/3 innings. He will enter his senior year nine wins away from tying the Shore Conference career record of 34 held by Rutgers pitching coach Casey Gaynor, a former Toms River East star whose father, Mike, was in attendance to watch Dalatri throw on Saturday on East's home field.

After registering what I believe is the best season of any baseball team in Shore Conference history, the Colts bring back Dalatri, Martorano, standout outfielder/leadoff hitter Cid Porter, and pitchers Kenny Campbell, Joe Gargana and Nick Hohenstein to try to make another run next season. Dalatri and Martorano are certainly two potential draft picks in the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Speaking of the MLB Draft, today marks this year's draft, but the Shore Conference does not really have anybody particularly slated to be taken high. There are no current or former Shore prospects among Baseball America's Top 500 players for this year's draft, and no high school player from this year's Shore senior class looks to be selected. There's always the possibility that a Shore grad at the college level gets picked in one of the last few rounds. There are a host of draft-eligible Shore grads on Rutgers, so I could see someone from that group potentially getting taken, and Marlboro grad Scott Donaghue was an All-MAAC infielder for Quinnipiac, so he could have a shot.

Next year could feature Dalatri, Martorano, former Barnegat star pitcher Jason Groome (now at IMG Academy in Florida), slugging Virginia catcher Matt Thaiss (Jackson Memorial) and more, so it could be a banner year for the Shore in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Next up on the Shore Conference baseball calendar is tomorrow night's Shore Baseball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game at 7 p.m.. at FirstEnergy Park. There also will be a home run derby at 6 p.m. Check out the rosters here.

On Wednesday, the Garden State Games featuring top underclass talent from around New Jersey will be held up at Diamond Nation in Flemington. There are 15 stars from the Shore, including Dalatri and Martorano, who will be participating.

The Carpenter Cup does not start until June 17 for Jersey Shore, which is the defending champion.

FOOTBALL

Rumson-Fair Haven freshman Elijah McAllister picked up his first FBS offer from Temple, which continues to offer Shore stars early in their recruitment, on Saturday. McAllister is a 6-foot-6 athlete who played wide receiver and defensive end for Rumson's freshman team, catching seven touchdown passes, before being called up to varsity for the state playoff run that resulted in the Bulldogs' second straight Central Jersey Group II title.

McAllister is perhaps better known for his contributions as a shot-blocker and rebounder on the Rumson basketball team that won its first Shore Conference Tournament title and finished No. 1 in the Shore this past winter. He became an important cog for the Bulldogs as a freshman, but clearly his ceiling in football is also very high if he is netting FBS offers as a ninth-grader.

He is the second Shore freshman to get offered by the Owls this spring/summer as Matawan quarterback George Pearson also has a Temple offer. The Owls also offered rising Ocean senior running back Tyler Thompson was he was a freshman and rising Lakewood senior linebacker Amir Tyler when he was a sophomore.

McAllister is part of a young core at Rumson led by sophomore Mike O'Connor, who started at quarterback on a state title team, and linebacker Mike Ruane, both of whom have FBS potential.

More on Monday:

  • Former CBA and Monmouth University star pitcher Pat Light is really starting to take off as a closer in the Red Sox system. He is hitting 99 on the gun and has been outstanding in Double A in the last month or so.
  • Former St. Rose star Anthony Ranaudo is doing his best to get back to the big leagues, putting together an all-star season as a pitcher in Triple-A in the Rangers' system.
  • Could a solution to the Mets' offensive woes be a trade for former Toms River South and Rutgers star Todd Frazier of the Reds?
  • Holy Spirit won the Non-Public B baseball title despite finishing the season with a losing record.
  • Penn State football recruit Stephen Gonzalez of Union City has endured the death of his father, aunt and a teammate to keep his career on track.
  • NASCAR driver Martin Truex of Stafford Township (sending district for Southern) got his first win since 2013 yesterday after enduring his girlfriend having cancer and more.
  • Why this company is paying an intern to live with the Amish and wrestle a crocodile.

On tap for today: Nothing for today, but tomorrow marks the SBCA Senior All-Star Game at FirstEnergy Park as the seniors represent their high schools one last time on the diamond.

I'll end with Brandon Martorano's two-run bomb off Cullen Dana that set the tone for CBA's win on Saturday. He ended the season with 11 home runs, which ties the CBA single-season record previously set by Jim Lauffer in 2007 and tied by current North Carolina first baseman Joe Dudek in 2013.
