SSN Wrestler of the Week: Southern’s John Stout
Every week this season, Shore Conference wrestling fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Wrestler of the Week on our website.
The winner of the reader's vote for the Week 5 is Southern Regional senior John Stout, who remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 week that included a convincing win over another of the Shore’s top 182-pounders.
Stout won by fall in Southern’s win over Middletown North and was awarded a forfeit in a blowout win over Timber Creek, but it was his 11-3 major decision victory over Brick Memorial’s David Szuba earned him the nomination and ultimately convinced the voters to select him. Stout, a Region 8 champion last season, locked in a cradle early in the match and never let up to earn an impressive win over the Brick Memorial sophomore, who was a state qualifier as a freshman and entered the bout with only one loss. Stout’s victory was the signature win in Southern’s dominant 48-24 win over the Mustangs.
Stout also won by fall in a match versus Toms River North on Tuesday to run his season record to 18-0. He has eight wins by fall and two major decisions to his credit.
Stout was the runaway winner in this week’s poll with over 50 percent of all votes cast.
