Every week this season, Shore Conference wrestling fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Wrestler of the Week on our website.

The winner of the reader's vote for the Week 4 Wrestler of the Week is Ocean senior Dino Poniros, who had two clutch wins to help the Spartans to victory in two important matches.

In a 40-37 victory over Middletown North that shook up the Class B North race, Poniros won by fall over Andrew Kanski at 220 pounds in the penultimate bout, and with Middletown North set to forfeit in the final bout at 285 the win effectively clinched the match.

In a 38-28 victory over Hopewell Valley, Poniros won by 9-4 decision over Christian Cacciabaudo to start a three-bout winning streak by the Spartans to erase a 28-26 deficit. Ocean’s win over the Bulldogs gave them a leg up on securing the No. 1 seed in the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 3 tournament. The Spartans are No. 1 in CJ-3 and second in all of Group 3 in the latest power points rankings.

It was an up and down week for Ocean, which was defeated by Colts Neck, beat Middletown North and then fell to Shore Regional. The Spartans will try to regroup Wednesday night when they host rival Long Branch, which has won five straight matches in the series.

Poniros had a ton of support this week and was the runaway winner in the poll with 44.47 percent of the votes.
