Every week this season, Shore Conference lacrosse fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Boys Lacrosse Player of the Week on our website and select the top performance from the prior week.

The Week 4 SSN Player of Week award goes to Toms River North sophomore attackman Nick Walano, who had two excellent offensive performances to help the Mariners pick up a pair of wins.

Midway through Week 4, Toms River North earned its second win of the season via a 13-9 win over district rival Toms River East. Walano helped lead the way by scoring five goals and adding two assists. Later in the week, the Mariners delivered a dramatic 11-10 overtime victory over Freehold Township. Walano had five goals and one assist vs. the Patriots, including the game-winning goal in overtime.

On Wednesday of this week, Walano continued his strong play with four goals and four assists in a 13-5 victory over Toms River South.

The 2021 season has been an adversity-filled campaign for the young but talented Mariners. The program's numbers are at a point where they barely have enough varsity players to field a team and are playing games with zero reserve players. Still, they've managed a 4-6 record despite the nine field players never being able to catch their breath.

Walano has had a great season and, along with sophomore midfielder Luke Barber, has led the way on offense. The rest of the Mariners' ironmen this year are senior midfielders Tommy Ludolph and Greg Wallack, sophomore attackman Scott MacConnell, sophomore defensemen Tim Beahm and Will Sutton, sophomore goalie Evan Singer, freshman attackman Connor Kromer and freshman defenseman Mike Vivolo. Toms River North will clearly need to bolster its program numbers next season but the team has an exciting young core to build around.

Walano was the runaway winner of the Week 4 poll with 31.6 percent of the votes to win over Howell's Vincent Burns and Barnegat's Tyler Quinn.
