Class A North

No. 6 Middletown South 26, Long Branch 3 (5 Innings)

Senior Patrick Eagone was a perfect 5-for-5 with a double, triple, three runs scored and four RBI to lead an offensive outburst by the Eagles (7-3, 2-3) in a rout of the Green Wave (1-8, 0-5).

Sophomore Ben Schild also went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Mike Mirro was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI and Joe Bartos was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Junior Evan Wood (2-for-4, double) and senior Greg Trezza (2-for-5) each drove in three runs apiece as well for Middletown South.

Senior Tyler Abbot was 1-for-2 with two RBI and senior Andrew Conklin went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead Long Branch.

No. 5 Manalapan 1, No. 3 Middletown North 0

Senior Anthony Matteis drove in the lone run with an RBI double in the top of the seventh and senior Joe Mazza outdueled Middletown North senior Colin Dowlen to give the Braves (7-2, 4-1) a win over the previously-unbeaten Lions (7-1, 4-1).

Mazza battled through trouble throughout his 103-pitch outing, scattering nine Middletown North hits while walking four and striking out seven.

Dowlen, meanwhile, allowed one unearned run on five hits while striking out eight and needing only 75 pitches to complete his seven innings.

CBA 3, No. 4 Freehold Twp. 2 (14 Innings)

Senior Michael Natali smacked a double that dropped just inside the right-field line and out of the reach of Freehold Township right fielder Jon Olik, chasing home senior Jack Greenspan from first with the winning run to give the Colts a marathon win over the Patriots - the first loss of the season for Freehold Township.

CBA was one strike away from winning the game in the top of the seventh, but Freehold Township junior shortstop Ryan Keegan beat out and infield single to the right side and Olik steamrolled home from second base with the tying run on the play.

From there, both relief staffs mowed down the opposition, with senior Joe Marini and junior Jack Frankovic combining for nine innings with just one unearned run allowed and Freehold Township senior Patrick Burns tossing nearly a full game's worth of outs in relief of starter Zach Gorman.

CBA jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-our RBI double by Frankovic in the third inning and a solo home run by Marini in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore Alex D'Ambrosio, junior Jake Kalfayan and senior Alex Jankowski combined on a no-hitter and the Mustangs (4-5, 3-4) blanked the Rebels (5-4, 1-4).

D'Ambrosio lasted 4 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking four as well, with Kalfayan recording the last out of the fifth. Jankowski nailed down the save by pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh.

Jankowski connected on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and senior Antonio Vitale added some insurance with a two-run single in the sixth.

 

Class A Central

Monmouth 9, Holmdel 3

Junior Christian Zito and senior Brian Yadlon provided an early spark for the offense and the Falcons (5-3, 2-3) opened up their lead in the final innings to put away the Hornets (2-7, 2-3).

Zito led off the game with a single, stole both second and third base, then scored on Yadlon's RBI single to open the scoring. Zito finished 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, while Yadlon was 2-for-4 with a run scored to go with the RBI.

Junior Andrew McKinley also went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, junior James Kelly was 2-for-2 with a run scored and junior Zach Lopes finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Monmouth.

Junior Sean Brescia drove in two runs for Holmdel, while senior Louie Curcio (2-for-4), senior Brett Hilsheimer (2-for-3) and freshman James Vallillo (2-for-2) each had two hits in the loss.

Sophomore Tom Kendrick hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the top of the seventh inning and the Jaguars rallied in the final two innings to deny the Raiders and remain unbeaten within the Shore Conference.

Sophomore Charlie Meglio singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Andrew Patire in the top of the sixth to pull Jackson Memorial even at 1-1.

Class B North

Manasquan 7, No. 8 Colts Neck 6

Junior Ryan Deegan dropped down a suicide squeeze to score the winning run and the Warriors (2-7, 2-3) rallied in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Cougars (5-3, 3-2).

Manasquan entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 6-4 after coughing up a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Jack O'Shea tied the score at 6-6 with a two-run single and finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, including another two-run single during Manasquan's four-run third inning that put the Warriors ahead, 4-1. O'Shea also picked up the win on the mound with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief that included one hit allowed and three strikeouts.

Senior David Frost and junior Mike Presbrey each singled home a run in the third and Frost finished 3-for-4 with two doubles on the day.

Sophomore Tim Spencer and junior Christian Rice each doubled and drove in one while junior Joe Cilea went 1-for-3 with two RBI for Colts Neck. Senior Ben Goldman was also 2-for-3 with a run in the loss.

Manasquan beat Colts Neck with the Cougars throwing their two best pitchers at them, with Anthony Gubitosi (81 pitches) giving up four runs on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts over the first three innings. Christian Rice took the loss in pitching the last 3 1/3 for Colts Neck and had a scoreless relief outing going until the seventh.

 

St. John Vianney 3, Matawan 2

Matteo Pasculli came through with a two-out, game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and the Lancers (2-3, 2-3) rallied to beat the Huskies (6-2, 4-1) and snap their three-game skid while also ending a four-game Matawan winning streak.

St. John Vianney trailed, 2-1, heading into the bottom of the seventh and began its winning rally with back-to-back one-out singles by senior Dan Afflito and junior Nick Ferraioli to put runners on the corners. Junior Dylan Galamb then tied the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Afflito.

Senior Ryan Sekman extended the rally with a single to put runners back on the corners and Pasculli won it with his single to leftfield.

Afflito finished 2-for-3 and also drove in a run in the bottom of the second. Pasculli and Sekman each finished 2-for-4.

Sophomore Aiden Cody recorded the last out of the top of the seventh to pick up his first career win. Senior Thomas Wright worked the first 6 2/3, giving up two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six and firing 111 pitches.

Matawan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by senior Mike Caldon.

Senior left-hander Tim Egan struck out nine and allowed one run on five hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings and 98 pitches. Senior Eli Gries-Smith came on in relief and took the loss on the mound while also going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored at the plate.

No. 10 Wall 11, Neptune 3

Senior Ryan Legere and junior Nick Lovarco each homered and drove in two runs and senior Max Harrell hit two doubles while driving in three to spark the Crimson Knights (7-3, 5-1)  to a win over the Scarlet Fliers (4-4, 2-3).

Senior Jimmy Bertand lasted four innings and allowed three runs (one earned) while earning the win. Senior Ryan Lasko followed with three perfect innings of relief, including four strikeouts.

Junior Tyler Persico doubled and drove in two to lead Neptune.

Red Bank 7, Freehold Boro 1

Sophomores Nate Ruth and Jackson Hyman combined on a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts and senior C.J. Paolino provided the exclamation point with a three-run home run in the sixth as the Bucs (4-6, 2-4) buried the Colonials (1-6, 1-4).

Ruth allowed one run on five hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings and struck out seven to earn the win while Hyman punched out six while walking only one in 2 2/3 no-hit frames.

Senior Andrew Glauber was 2-for-3 with an RBI walk and junior Gus Dal Pra added an RBI single to open the scoring during a 1-for-2 day with two runs scored.

Senior Chris Casale was 1-for-4 and drove in the lone Freehold Boro run.

Junior Chris Sasso was 2-for-3 with two RBI while senior Jake Hickman finished 2-for-4 with two runs score for Jackson Liberty. Freshman Brett Benecke also went 1-for-1 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI while senior Garrett Drew was 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI in the win.

 

Barnegat 3, Point Boro 2

Senior Kyle Moore hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Bengals held off the Panthers for their fourth straight win.

Point Boro tied the game in the top of the fifth on a two-run blast by senior Frankie Dominici.
