Ranney 5, Rutgers Prep 0

Marcello Mastroianni pitched 4 1/3 scoreless, one-hit innings with seven strikeouts and three walks on Friday and Jack Renaud finished the job on Sunday morning with 2 2/3 innings and six strikeouts to close it as the Panthers (16-4) blanked the Argonauts (13-8) to reach the sectional semifinal round Monday at Gloucester Catholic.

The game began on Friday and was suspended due to weather with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning.

On Sunday, Renaud worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth to start the day and preserve the 3-0 Ranney lead. Charlie Chropuvka then belted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to stretch Ranney's lead to 5-0.

On Friday, Brett Wehringer gave Ranney a 1-0 lead with an RBI single and Lou Spadafora tacked on a second Panthers run with a sacrifice fly. Ranney got its third run on a steal of third base with two out that Rutgers Prep threw into left field, allowing the run to score.

(9) Marlboro 7, (1) Manalapan 4

Antonio Vitale delivered an RBI single in the third and an RBI double in the fifth to back start Mark Capell, who pitched the Mustangs past the defending sectional champion Braves and into the Central Group IV semifinals Tuesday against No. 12 Old Bridge.

After winning on the road in each of the first two rounds, Marlboro will return home Tuesday to face the team that eliminated the Mustangs from the 2019 Central Jersey Group IV Tournament - also in the semifinal round.

Joe Lomangino opened the scoring with an RBI triple to score Nick Wright in the top of the third and Capell followed with an RBI double to make it 2-0. Frank Talarico then picked up an RBI with a groundball that was played into an error before Vitale capped the four-run third for Marlboro that gave the Mustangs an early 4-0 cushion.

Manalapan answered with three in the bottom of the inning, with Anthony Matrone and Anthony Matteis hitting back-to-back RBI single and a third run scoring on an error.

Vitale provided an insurance run in the fifth with his RBI double and Talarico made it 6-3 with an RBI double in the top of the seventh, with the seventh run also scoring on an error.

Manalapan loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh and Capell remained in the game to induce a pair of shallow fly outs. He then walked Matteis to force in a run and bring the winning run to the plate in the form of Guidice, but the Braves' No. 3 hitter flew out to deep left-center to end the game.

Senior Matt Pontari shook off a shaky start to pitch six solid innings and also blasted the go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to lead the Eagles past the Patriots and into the sectional semifinals Tuesday at No. 2 Hunterdon Central.

After Pontari gave up three runs in the top of the first inning, Middletown South immediately answered with three in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by an RBI single by Evan Wood, who also recorded the final three outs of the game to pick up the save.

Blaze Masterson, Tyler Spencer and Cameron Knipp hit consecutive run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the sixth to break the game open and send the Cougars to a quarterfinal win over the Lions.

Masterson and Spencer cracked back-to-back two-run doubles to turn a 2-1 game into a 6-1 Colts Neck lead and Knipp followed with an RBI double to tack on further.

Colts Neck will host No. 5 Allentown in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday.

The Redbirds (15-4) raced out to a six-run lead in the first two innings and held off a comeback effort by the defending Group III champion Crimson Knights (19-6) that came up just short in the seventh inning.

Ryan Lasko pitched five scoreless innings of relief to give Wall a chance and the Crimson Knights nearly pulled it off. Jay Bant stroked a two-run double in the fourth to cut the Allentown lead to 6-3 and Gabe Cavazzoni plated two with a double in the bottom of the seventh to set Wall up with the tying run in scoring position with one out.

Wagner commit Dan Merkel picked up the win on the mound and Mike Timberlake close it out for Allentown, which will travel to play top-seeded Colts Neck on Tuesday.

Central Jersey Group II

(11) Raritan 6, (3) South Plainfield 1

Ben Hutchins pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and the Rockets (11-9) topped the Tigers to advance to the sectional semifinals behind another road win.

Hutchins also collected two hits and scored two runs to help his cause. Chris Gonzalez also contributed a pair of hits, scored two runs and drove one in while Bill Tigar drove in two with two hits to spark the Raritan offense.

Raritan will once again hit the road Tuesday for the semifinal round, which will be at No. 2 Governor Livingston.

Charlie Jones pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings and John Goodes finished off the combined three-hit shutout to propel the Bulldogs past the Ravens and into the sectional semifinal Tuesday vs. No. 4 Voorhees. Jones struck out nine, walked three and allowed three hits in the victory.

Andrew Banick went 3-for-3 with three doubles and four RBI to lead an offensive onslaught by the Garnet Gulls (13-7) that overwhelmed the Rams.

Hunter Alia also went 3-for-3 with four runs and three RBI and Phil Trebour also doubled and drove in four runs for Point Beach, which scored seven in the third to take a 10-1 lead and erupted for 15 runs in the fourth to pour it on.

Connor DeLorenzo and Hunter Roselli each went 2-for-2 with an RBI, with DeLorenzo scoring four runs and Roselli scoring three. Matt Van Brunt and Dave Terra-Nova each finished 3-for-4 with a double, with Van Brunt driving in two and Terra-Nova one. Alec Glen also went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI in the win.

Van Brunt earned the win in relief of Banick, with the two right-handers each tossing two innings before Owen West pitched the fifth to finish off the game. Van Brunt struck out four, walked two and did not allow a hit in his two innings of work.

Point Beach will travel to play No. 2 New Egypt in Tuesday's sectional semifinal round.

South Jersey Group IV

(5) Jackson Memorial 11, (4) Kingsway 1 (5 Innings)

Ty Beck pitched a five-inning complete game and the Jaguars (18-6) went off for seven runs in the top of the fifth to put away the Dragons and advance to the sectional semifinal Tuesday at top-seeded Williamstown.

Zach Rogacki made it 5-1 with an RBI single in the fifth and J.R. Osmond dealt a decisive blow with a two-run single in the seven-run rally by Jackson Memorial.

Evan Agrapides hit a tie-breaking solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and Anthony Musso added a two-run homer in the sixth as the Golden Eagles (15-8) offense delivered late in a win over the Blue Devils.

Agrapides was 1-for-2 with two RBI in the win, while Cristian Soto went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Shane Sajewicz was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Cam Leiter went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Central.

Connor Shea picked up the win with four scoreless innings in relief of starter Leiter, striking out three, walking one and allowing four hits. Shea threw 42 pitches after Leiter threw 68.

Central will travel to face No. 2 Ocean City Tuesday with all of its pitchers eligible to pitch in some capacity.

Gannon Brady fired a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to help the Red Raiders top the Lions (11-9) to advance to a sectional semifinal meeting with No. 3 Central.

South Jersey Group II

(12) Manchester 8, (4) Barnegat 2

Brandon Sogness, Sean McAllister and Chris Grille all had key, run-scoring hits and Mike Damato capped Manchester's big day with a three-run home run in the sixth to lead the Hawks past Class B South rival Bengals and into the sectional semifinals Tuesday at top-seeded West Deptford.

Sogness tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the top of the second and McAllister broke a 2-2 two with a two-run double in the top of the third. Grille added an RBI double to make it 5-2 in the top of the fifth and Damato blasted a three-run shot to right-center to cap the scoring.

Left-hander Joe Sclama surrendered sacrifice flies to P.J. Craig and Rafael Dominguez in the first and second innings before zoning in for five scoreless innings with just two hits allowed the rest of the way.

(1) Bishop Eustace 2, (9) St. John Vianney 1

Jacob Ramirez hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the undefeated Crusaders on the brink of their first defeat, but Bishop Eustace (21-0) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, beating the Lancers (11-6) on a walk-off, RBI single by Christian Ovecka with one out in the final at-bat.

Two of the baserunners to reach of the bottom of the seventh reached on errors against St. John Vianney starter Thomas Wright, who recorded the only out of the inning with a runner on first base. He then issued a walk and Bishop Eustace loaded the bases on an error.

St. John Vianney replaced Wright with Aiden Cody and Bishop Eustace's Matt Augustin worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the game and set the stage for Ovecka to end it.

The Lancers beat CBA in the opening round of the tournament on a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning by Dylan Galamb. It nearly happened again, this time with Ramirez blasting a tie-breaking solo shot to centerfield to lead off the top of the final inning.

Joe Mascio went the distance for Bishop Eustace, with the Crusaders saving both Anthony Solometo and Danny Kerr - both of whom have allowed one earned run each for the entire season - for the next round, with fourth-seeded Red Bank Catholic making the trip south on Monday for the sectional semifinals.

(6) Paul VI 5, (3) Donovan Catholic 2

Ryan Butchko cut into a five-run deficit with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth and Donovan Catholic loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles escaped with a win to reach Monday's sectional semifinal at No. 2 St. Augustine.

Paul VI scored in each of the first three innings, with Declan Williams belting a three-run home run in the top of the third to open up a 5-0 lead for the visitors.
