North Division

No. 3 Middletown South 3, No. 2 St. John Vianney 2

Junior forward Nate Block had a hand in all three goals with one goal and two assists and junior goalie Jack Collings stood tall with 33 saves as the Eagles (3-0, 2-0) built a three-goal lead and held off a comeback attempt by the Lancers (3-1-1, 0-1-1).

Junior forward Aiden Cavendish added a goal and an assist, senior forward Michael Volpi had a power-play goal and junior defenseman Andreas Forand had two assists.

Giuliano Fazio and Ryan Kulaszewski scored for St. John Vianney while Dan Shallcross made 19 saves.

Middletown South struck first at 9:47 of the first period when Volpi's wrist shot from the blue line found its way through traffic and past Shallcross for a power-play goal. The Eagles' lead grew to 2-0 just 47 seconds into the second period when Block threw a pass to the goalmouth from behind the net and Cavendish knocked the loose puck home. Block then scored at 9:26 of the second period in a similar fashion when he corralled a rebound off a shot by Forand and beat Shallcross to make it 3-0.

SJV got a much-needed goal when Fazio lifted the stick of a Middletown South defenseman and in one motion slid the puck past Collings at 12:18 of the second period. The Lancers were able to cut Middletown South's lead to 3-2 when a shot by Kulaszewski appeared to change direction before trickling through Collings at 8:53 of the third period. Despite constant pressure and 18 shots on goal by SJV in the third, Middletown South was able to hold on for the victory.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday a Jersey Shore Arena.

 

Marlboro 5, No. 10 St. Rose 2

Senior forward Paul Golembiewski and senior defenseman Daniel Goldstein each tallied two goals and one assist to lead the Mustangs (3-2-1, 1-1-1) past the Purple Roses (0-1, 0-1).

The St. Rose/Red Bank Catholic/Donovan Catholic tri-op was making its season debut.

Sophomore forward Mark Pellegrino scored once and junior goalie Dmitri Kapranov continued his strong play by making 23 saves. Junior forward Ethan Gelman added two assists.

Freshman forward Connor Harms scored his first varsity goal, senior forward Christopher Lordi scored since and junior goalie Jack Bilancione made 27 saves for St. Rose.

 

Central Division

No. 7 Central 10, Freehold Township 0

Junior forward Corey van den Berg scored four times and added one assist and senior center Trevor Coltenback recorded a hat trick plus two assists as the Golden Eagles (6-0) flew past the Patriots (2-4).

Junior forward Mark Anthony Competello and senior defenseman Brady Steller had a goal and two assists each, junior forward Dominick Competello had a goal and an assist and junior Joey Klutoski dished out two assists. Nick Bilinski made eight saves to record his third shutout of the season.

Karina Vang made 16 saves for Freehold Township.

 

Southern 10, Lacey 0

Sean Rowland, Matthew Brock and Ben Gautier each scored their first varsity goals as the Rams (2-2) rolled to a victory over the Lions (0-4).

Gautier finished with two goals and one assist, Parker Lech also scored twice, Yater Henry and Christopher Laureigh each had a goal and three assists, Brooks Hradeck notched a goal and two assists, Ryan High scored once and Kaitlyn Bruan made nine saves.
