Shore 1, No. 10 Rumson-Fair Haven 1

Freshman Jadyn DeRosa followed up his own miss to tie the game in the 75th minute and the Blue Devils (0-1-1, 0-1-1) battled the Bulldogs (1-0-1, 1-0-1) to a draw in Shore's second overtime match in two games to open the season. The Blue Devils lost to Ocean, 3-2, in their opener.

Rumson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute when freshman Ronan Hogg scored his first career goal off a pass from senior Jack Marshall.

DeRosa then initiated the equalizer with a shot on goal that Rumson goalkeeper Aiden Colburn saved, but DeRosa pounced on the rebound and slammed it home for the tying goal.

 

Non-Division

Point Boro 4, Brick 0

Junior Alex Baginski scored two goals and assisted one by sophomore Chase Norling to lead the Panthers (2-0) past the Green Dragons (0-2).

Baginski opened the scoring in the 12th minute off a find from junior Max Dyba, set up Norling's goal in the 22nd and scored again in the 31st off a feed from sophomore John Witkowski in the 31st.

Witkowski scored the final goal off an assist from senior Charles Latendorf in the 37th minute, giving Point Boro four goals before halftime.

No. 6 Ocean 1, No. 5 Colts Neck 0

Senior center back Dylan Gargulinski buried a 20-yard shot as time expired in the first overtime period and the Spartans (2-0) beat the Cougars (0-2) in an overtime thriller.

Ocean earned a corner kick with nine seconds left on the clock and senior Brian Miranda's service to the front of the net was knocked away from the goal by Colts Neck. Spartans senior Aidan Tisony got to the ball first and slid it over to Gargulinski, who was charging from the back. Gargulinski took one touch and calmly ripped a shot that navigated through a host of defenders and past lunging Colts Neck goalkeeper Joe Portello just as the clock struck all zeros.

Ocean goalkeeper Paco Costello made five saves to earn the shutout and the Spartans dodged two bullets when two potential Colts Neck goals were disallowed due to offsides calls - one in the 33rd minute and another in the 57th.

Portella made a leaping save on a clean look by Tisony in the 71st to preserve the 0-0 deadlock for the time being and Colts Neck senior striker David Tuschmann - a 25-goal scorer a year ago - go his best look of the game in the 73rd, when he one-timed a cross from freshman Kyle Moore just over the crossbar.

Long Branch 1, Monmouth 0

Junior Jeremy Hernandez scored his second goal in as many games, this time finishing off a pass from senior Eduardo Ribiero in the 55th minute to give the Green Wave (2-1) the deciding goal in a win over the Falcons (1-2).

Manalapan 2, Red Bank 0

Senior Conor Kinnucane and junior Jacob Hyams each found the back of the net and the Braves (1-1) toppled the Bucs (1-1) to end a 13-game winless streak that dated back to the end of the 2019 season.

Raritan 3, Manchester 2 (OT)

Junior Lupo Ryder scored the golden goal in the 95th minute off a cross from senior Steven Amodeo and the Rockets (1-0) paid back the Hawks (0-3) in a rematch of last year's Central Jersey Group I and II sectional semifinals, won by Manchester.

Ryder's game-winner was the second of two goals for him on the day, while Amodeo tallied a pair of assists. Senior Matt Fogarty also added a goal - the first of his varsity career - for Raritan.

Manchester jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Joey Kurak in the 10th minute. Junior Owen Edwards assisted the Kurak goal and later tied the game in the 50th minute with a goal of his own.

After winning the program's first sectional title ever last season, Manchester has opened 2021 with three straight overtime losses.

Central 4, Barnegat 1

Senior Gianni Smith posted a hat trick and the Golden Eagles (2-0-1) rolled to a win over the Bengals (1-2).

Smith scored both his first and third goals off passes from sophomore David Kroon, one to open the scoring in the first half and the other to cap it in the second. Smith's second goal made it 3-1 in the second half and was set up by a pass from junior Ryan DiCillo.

Senior Mike Azzerone gave Central a 2-0 lead off a pass from senior Mason Leszynski.

Donovan Catholic 5, Mater Dei Prep 0

Junior Peyton Calvetto scored the first three of Donovan Catholic's five first-half goals and the Griffins (1-1) stormed to a win over the Seraphs (0-2).

Senior Preston Kyriakoulis and junior Juan Jordan each added a goal and an assist for Donovan Catholic.

Holmdel 1, Middletown North 0 (OT)

Senior Brendan Worobel scored the golden goal in the second overtime period and the Hornets (2-0) outlasted the Lions (0-2) for their second straight win to open the season. Worobel has scored five of Holmdel's six goals in its first two games.

No. 3 Wall 2, St. Rose 1 (OT)

Sophomore Cooper Harmon scored the golden goal in the 12th minute of overtime off a feed from senior Sam Grabicki and the Crimson Knights (2-0) rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to deny the Purple Roses (1-1) an early-season upset.

Senior Ryan Molloy scored the equalizer early in the second half off a cross from classmate Matt Murphy.

St. Rose jumped on top in the fifth minute on a long strike by senior Luke Hamill.

 

Non-Conference

LaSalle College 4, No. 1 CBA 3

Junior Jack D'Eletto, sophomore Dylan Millevoi and senior Dylan Cupo each scored a goal and sophomore goalkeeper Joe Grossman stopped a penalty kick in the second half, but La Salle scored in the final seconds of regulation to pull out a win in dramatic fashion.
