Teams: Middletown North, Bayonne, Butler, Hanover Park, Kinnelon, New Providence, Newton, Old Tappan, Parsippany Hills, Pequannock, Ridgewood, West Morris-Mendham

Recap: Juniors Tyler Klinsky and Thomas O'Keefe and sophomore Nico Scerbo won individual titles and senior Jacob Anderson and junior Fred Luchs finished second to lead Middletown North to a third-place finish in the team standings.

Klinsky, a returning Region 5 champion, won by fall over Kinnelon freshman Evan Mougalian in 5:45 to win the 106-pound title. O'Keefe, a returning region qualifier, edged Newton's Danny Cleary, 2-1, in the 113-pound final. Scerbo, who was a region qualifier as a freshman, won 7-3 over Bayonne's Jarid Kufczynski in the 182-pound final.

Anderson fell to Mendham's Gage Armijo, 5-1, in the 220-pound final between a pair of state qualifiers. Luchs, a district runner-up last season, lost 3-2 to Mendham's Tristan Navarino, a returning state qualifier, in the 120-pound final.

Senior Nate Pujols was third at 132 and junior Chris McCarthy was third at 138.

 

Caldwell Tournament

Teams: Raritan, Rumson-Fair Haven, Emerson, Hackettstown, Hunterdon Central, Kittatinny, St. Benedict's Prep

Recap: Rumson-Fair Haven senior Nick Addison won by 15-0 technical fall over Raritan's George Burdick in the 182-pound final to earn his 100th career win and win Outstanding Wrestler honors. Max Brignola placed second at 138 pounds. Rumson finished eighth in the team standings.

Raritan senior Anthony Aquilano defeated Hunterdon Central's Dan Fumato to win the 170-pound title. Burdick was second at 182 and senior Justin Acevedo finished third at 195. Raritan placed third as a team.

Teams: Brick, CBA, Donovan Catholic, Toms River North, Wall, High Point, Pascack Hills

Recap: Toms River North had two individual champions and 10 top-three medalists to finish second and Wall had three champions and five top-three medalists to place third behind team champion High Point.

Toms River North's Mike Nakano captured the 195-pound title by pinning Hopewell Valley's Brian Lacross in 36 seconds. Nakano won both of his bouts by fall in a combined 47 seconds. Teammate John O'Donnell followed with a victory in the 220-pound final where he pinned Pascack Hills' Alex Kostantas in 4:37.

Louis Gagliardo finished second at 106 pounds, Nick Boggiano was second at 138 pounds and Jack Oleske was second at 170 pounds. Boggiano fell to High Point's Billy Talmadge, 7-4 in double overtime, in a matchup of state qualifiers. Ryan Rosenthal (113), Alex Danelson (120), Mark Fedeli (132), O'Neil Forbes (145) and Matt Spalletta (160) each finished third for the Mariners.

Wall superstar Rob Kanniard, the state runner-up at 160 pounds last season, cruised to the 170-pound title and pinned Oleske in the championship bout. Sophomore Jake Whitworth followed by winning the 182-pound title with a 10-5 decision over CBA's Derek Smith. Nico Vargas, a transfer from J.P. Stevens, was victorious in his Wall debut with a 2-0 win over Hopewell Valley's Aaron Longo in the 145-pound final. Finishing second was Brendan Newbury at 160 pounds and placing third was Shane Golumb at 152.

Cael Rankin placed second at 120 pounds and Luke Bartlet finished second at heavyweight for Donovan Catholic. Levi Wilkins was third at 220. Sam LaCorte (138) and Ethan Diamond (195) finished third for CBA and Brick freshman Evan Tallmadge placed third at 106 pounds.

 

Edison Classic

Teams: Red Bank, A.L. Johnson, Carteret, Edison, J.P. Stevens, Manville, Metuchen, Verona

Recap: Phil Stolfa and Justin Gooding each won individual titles and Tucher Cochrane finished second to pace Red Bank. Anthony Ciccone and Vincent DeLorenzi finished third.

Teams: Colts Neck, Holmdel, Keyport, Highland Park, Montgomery, Notre Dame, Rancocas Valley

Recap: Logan Waller, Luke Rada, Joe Barsky and Michael Jannucci each won titles to lead Colts Neck to the team championship.

Rada, who transferred from Howell, made his Colts Neck debut with a victory at 145 pounds, pinning Holmdel's Dean Gallo in the final. Waller defeated West Windsor-Plainsboro South's Brandon Murray, 5-1, to take the 120-pound title and Barsky topped Pennington's Abdel Alqutawana, 5-1, in the 160-pound final. Jannucci captured the 182-pound title with a 5-1 victory over Jefferson's Justin Randzio.

Holmdel's Nick Ammirati won the 113-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Rancocas Valley's Jake Kosowski.

John and Betty Vogeding Tournament - Click here for brackets

Teams: Howell, Camden, Cedar Creek, Gloucester Catholic, Lower Cape May, Marian Bracetti Academy (Pa.), Paulsboro, Penns Grove, Pitman, Washington Twp

Recap: Howell had seven champions and won the unofficial team championship against host Paulsboro in a matchup of the top two public-school teams in New Jersey.

Team scoring is not kept at the event. Howell finished with 278 points and Paulsboro had 265.5 points. Paulsboro began the season ranked No. 2 by NJ.com and Howell was No. 3.

The Rebels won titles in the first four weight classes and in five of the first six weights, then closed strong with wins at 170 and 220 pounds. Junior  Ethan Liptzin won the 106-pound title with a 6-2 decision over Washington Township's Ethan Wilson and sophomore Kyle Nase defeated Paulsboro freshman D.J. Hainey, 5-3 in overtime, to take the 113-pound championship. James McGee followed with an 8-3 decision over Pitman's Armando Keifner at 120 pounds and sophomore Neiko Malone, a transfer from Rancocas Valley, won by 15-4 major decision over Washington Township's Nick Flamma in the 126-pound final.

At 138 pounds, Shore Conference Tournament and Region 6 champion Darby Diedrich outlasted Paulsboro's Jacob Perez, 3-2 in ultimate tiebreaker. State medalist Shane Reitsma won the 170-pound crown with a 3-1 decision over Angel Garcia out of Philadelphia's Mariana Bracetti Academy and at 220, senior Joe Sardina built a seven-point lead before pinning Paulsboro's Flynn Leaf, a Malvern Prep (Pa.) transfer, in 4:57.

Finishing second for Howell were Pierce Gomez (145), Paul Jakub (152) and Christian Murphy (182). Gomez lost by 15-3 major decision to state qualifier Gabe Onorato and Jakub fell to state fifth-place finisher George Worthy, 7-5. Murphy dropped a 7-3 decision to state fifth-place finisher Santino Morina.

Placing third were Nick Acque (132), John Coyle (152), Xavier Kelly (160) and Jake Nase (195).

 

Neptune Classic - Click here for brackets

Teams: Jackson Memorial, Long Branch, Neptune, Toms River East, Blair Academy B, Highland, Monroe, North Hunterdon, Timber Creek, West Windsor-Plainsboro North

Recap: Brett Blaess, Vin Scollo, Carsten DiGiantomasso, Brock Winston and Kyle Epperly each won individual titles to lead Jackson Memorial past Long Branch for the team title.

Blaess won by 8-5 decision over Blair Academy's Marc Koch to win the 106-pound title and Scollo scored a 9-4 decision over Monroe's Joseph Fiordaliso to claim the 120-pound championship. Both Scollo and Fiordaliso were state qualifiers last season.

DiGiantomasso won by 7-1 decision over Long Branch's Ryan Carey at 152 and Winston won by 12-4 major decision over Neptune's Felipe Garcia in the 182-pound final. At 195, Epperly completed a dominant run to the title by pinning Long Branch's Pat O'Dwyer in 53 seconds. Epperly won all three of his bouts by fall. Brad Galassi finished second at 220 pounds.

Long Branch had two champions as Tracey Taylor won 5-2 over Galassi at 220 and senior Kevin Cerruti, a returning state medalist, pinned Highland's Elijah Wilson in 1:15 at heavyweight. Cerruti pinned all three of his opponents in the first period.

Ryan Zimmerman (126), Steve Pabone (138), Ryan Carey (152) and Pat O'Dwyer (195) each finished second for the Green Wave. Senior Luke Arnold did not wrestle.

Toms River East sophomore Michael Conklin recorded an impressive win when he pinned Zimmerman in 4:18 to win the 126-pound title. Both Conklin and Zimmerman were state qualifiers last season. Conklin won by fall in all three of his bouts. Joe McCullough took second at 113 and Alexander Gorlin took second at 132 for the Raiders.

Felipe Garcia (182) placed second and Chris DeSopo (Hwt) took third to lead host Neptune.

 

Nottingham Invitational

Teams: Jackson Liberty, Manalapan, Manchester, Bishop Ahr, Burlington Twp, Central Bucks (Pa.), Cinnaminson, Marple Newtown (Pa.), Nottingham, Oakcrest, Rahway, Seneca, Warren Hills, Westampton Tech, Westwood

Teams: Freehold Township, Manasquan, Marlboro, Matawan, Red Bank Catholic, East Brunswick, Gov. Livingston, Middlesex, Old Bridge, Sayreville, South River

Recap: Justin Schifter (113) and Avery Clarke (132) won individual titles and Jason Schifter (120) and Jarrid Markowitz (195) placed second to lead Freehold Township to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Schifter defeated Matawan's Lee Rubin by 14-2 major decision in the final and Clarke won by 9-4 decision over Governor Livingston's David Vill to take the 132-pound title.

Harrison Gordon and Evan Brown won titles for Marlboro to help the Mustangs finish third. Gordon won by 3-0 decision over Sayreville's Dylan Acevado to win the 106-pound title and Brown took the title at 160 pounds with a 9-4 decision over Governor Livingston's Joseph Scalora.

Matawan's Kamrin O'Neill won the 120-pound title with a 15-2 major decision over Freehold Township's Jason Schifter.

Red Bank Catholic senior Steve Cmielewski captured the 220-pound title with a 1-0 overtime decision over Sayreville's Savon Kirksey.

Teams: Shore, Delran, Deptford, Hamilton West, Hammonton, Hightstown, Shawnee

Recap: Sophomores Jack Maida and Mike McGhee and freshman Jamie Mazzacco won individual titles to lead Shore to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Maida, a state qualifier who entered the season ranked No. 14 in the nation by FloWrestling, won by fall in 1:15 over Shawnee's Jack Hastings to take the 106-pound title. Maida won by fall in all three of his bouts. McGhee won by fall in his first two bouts and finished off the 138-pound championship with an 18-3 technical fall over Hamilton West's Ryan Bennett. Mazzacco was victorious in his high school debut by scoring an 8-4 decision over Shawnee's Isaac Dean to win the 170-pound title.

Matt Klemser (113), Al DeSantis (138) and Ian Smith (160) placed second and Brendon Denovaes (182), Taylor Sousa (195), Cade Torres (220) and Joe Graci (285) placed third. DeSantis fell to Delran's Bryan Miraglia, 3-0, in a matchup of returning state qualifiers.

Teams: Southern, St. John Vianney, Absegami, Buena, Camden Catholic, Delsea, Don Bosco Prep, Egg Harbor Township, Hammonton, Moorestown, Mount Olive

Recap: Host Southern had four champions, three runners-up and two third-place finishers to win the team title.

Junior Robert Woodcock won the 138-pound weight class with a 6-4 victory over Camden Catholic's Anthony Croce in a matchup of returning state qualifiers. Croce finished last season's state tournament in the top 12 while Woodcock lost in the first round of wrestlebacks.

Senior Nick O'Connell, a returning region champion and a state medalist as a sophomore, defeated Camden Catholic's Harrison Hinojosa, 13-9, in the 160-pound final. Senior John Stout edged Buena's Jaden Roberts, 4-3, at 182 pounds and junior J.T. Cornelius clipped Mount Olive's Christopher Cherry, 7-5, in the 220-pound final.

Matt Brielmeier (126), Haven Tatarek (170) and Ben LoParo (195) finished second and Jayson Scerbo (120) and Nick Pepe (145) took third.

St. John Vianney sophomore Dean Peterson cruised to the 120-pound title with two pins and a major decision. The state runner-up at 106 pounds last season, Peterson pinned Delsea's Asa Walton in 42 seconds in the championship bout. Peterson is ranked No. 9 in the nation at 113 pounds by InterMat and No. 17 by FloWrestling.

Blake Clayton also placed first for SJV with a 3-2 win over Tatarek in the 170-pound final. Senior heavyweight Paul Liseno was a buzzsaw on his way to the title at 285 pounds with three pins, including a 45-second fall over Don Bosco Prep's Jonathan Alvarado in the final.

Nicholas Diaz (106) was second for the Lancers and Joey Butler (126) and Seth Rotondella (132) took third.

 

Ronald Bond Tournament

Teams: Toms River South, Eastern, Haddonfield, Sterling, Triton

 

TCNJ Pride Tournament - Click here for brackets

Teams: Middletown South, Pt Beach, Bordentown, Collingswood, Nutley, Plainfield, Trenton Central, West Essex

Recap: Point Beach's Jason Sherlock and Connor Smith and Middletown South's Travis Tuminelli each won individual titles to lead the Shore Conference contingent at the TCNJ Pride Tournament.

Sherlock defeated Plainfield's Ki'zuran Casey, 8-6, to win the 170-pound title and Smith scored a 6-3 decision over Nutley's Billy Searle at heavyweight. Jesse Bowers took second at 132 pounds, falling to West Essex's Mike Ruane, 9-8. Jason Schultz placed second at 145 pounds.

Tuminelli, a freshman, won by fall in 1:13 over Bordentown's Dominic Kolaski in the 106-pound final. He won by bonus points in all three of his bouts with two pins and a major decision. Michael Holland was second at 113 pounds.

 

Wendy Pandy-Leh Tournament - Click here for brackets

Teams: Ocean, Bordentown, Cherokee, Delaware Valley, Haddon Township, JFK-Iselin, Demarest, Pingry, Westfield, Woodstown

Recap: Sophomore Demetri Poniros, senior Anthony Esposito and sophomore Joe Teresi won individual titles and Ocean had seven top-three finishers to take the team title by one point over host Delaware Valley.

Poniros won by 7-5 decision over Westfield's Quinn Gimblette to win the 113-pound title and Esposito won by fall over Pingry's Jack Lyons at 160 pounds. Teresi won by fall in all three of his bouts to win the heavyweight crown and pinned Delaware Valley's Ryan Sutter in 2:18 in the championship bout.

Blake Tarnowski placed second at 106 pounds and Will Tisony (120), Nick Benner (132) and Jack Nies (138) each placed third.

Junior Alex Poniros, the state seventh-place finisher at 132 pounds last season, finished fourth after injury-defaulting in the 145-pound semifinals. Poniros tweaked his shoulder in a scramble with Delaware Valley's Corey Crater and was then pulled from the tournament, according to Ocean head coach Cippy Apicelli.
