Class A South

Toms River North 2, Brick Memorial 2

Senior Connor Hackett scored the game-tying goal with four seconds left in regulation and the Mustangs (0-0-2, 0-0-2) rallied back against the Mariners (1-0-1, 1-0-1) for their second A South draw in as many games to open the season.

Hackett headed in a corner kick by senior Drew Forfar with the final seconds ticking away in regularion. Senior Pat Schlagenhaft scored the first Brick Memorial goal.

Junior Anthony Ruggerio scored the first Toms River North goal and assisted a goal by sophomore James Homyak.

No. 8 Toms River East 5, Jackson Memorial 0

Junior Jackson Markovitch went off for four goals and the Raiders (1-1-1, 1-0-1) rolled to a win over the Jaguars (1-1-1, 1-1-0) for their first win of the season.

Senior Kajus Matazinskas added a goal, senior Jack Smyth chipped in two assists, and both senior Ryan Kozlej and junior Sean Peck recorded an assist apiece for Toms River East. Sophomore Bobby Calvo saved five shots to earn the shutout.

Central 5, Brick 1

Senior John Truhan scored two goals in the first half and junior David Kroon struck for two in the second as the Golden Eagles (1-1, 1-1) ran away with a win over the Green Dragons (0-3, 0-2).

Kroon also assisted the first two goals of the game, starting with sophomore Blake Crutchley finishing seven minutes into the match to open the scoring. Truhan then scored the next two before intermission, with Kroon assisting the first one and senior goalkeeper Trevor Policastro the second.

Brick senior Jayson Nardone broke up the shutout on the other side of the break in the 50th minute. Kroon then scored his two goals, with sophomore Dillon Konfederak assisted the first of those two goals in the 54th.

Toms River South 4, Southern 2

Junior Kenny Caruso scored two goals and senior Jon Fitzgerald collected three assists to lead the Indians (2-0, 2-0) over the Rams (0-2, 0-2).

Senior Justin Villamizer scored the equalizer in the 20th minute off Fitzgerald's first assist and Caruso put Toms River South on top in the 29th off a cross to the middle from Fitzgerald.

Senior Devon Costa made it 3-1 in the 48th by re-directing a corner kick by Fitzgerald and Toms River South went up, 4-1, in the 57th on Caruso's second goal, which came off an assist by senior Evan Burnett.

Junior David Boyd scored Southern's second goal off a pass from senior Patrick Gaffney. Southern benefitted from an own goal to open the scoring.

 

Class B Central

Point Beach 4, Henry Hudson 0

Junior Thomas Schulter scored two goals and senior Josh Boyan added a goal and two assists to lead the Garnet Gulls (2-1, 2-1) over the Admirals (0-2, 0-1). Junior Chris Madden scored the other Point Beach goal.

St. Rose 10, Keyport 0

 

Class B South

Point Boro 2, Lakewood 1

Juniors John Ward and Ben Fritz each scored in the first 11 minutes and the Panthers (3-0, 2-0) held on to beat the Piners (1-1, 1-1) for their third straight win to open the season.

Ashwin Santiago cut the Lakewood deficit in half with a goal in the 62nd minute.

Barnegat 2, Pinelands 1

Freshman Leo Chamorro scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute and the Bengals (3-0, 2-0) beat the Wildcats (0-3, 0-2) for their third straight win to open the season.

Sophomore Joe Ficorillo headed in a ball from junior Julian Marfino in the 23rd minute to give Barnegat a 1-0 lead. Pinelands leveled the score in the 71st on a penalty kick by junior Dan Eberlin.

Jackson Liberty 2, Lacey 1

Junior Conor Yurgel scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 78th minute to lift the Lions (3-0, 2-0) to a win over defending Class B South champion Lacey (0-2, 0-2).

Yurgel broke a scoreless tie by knocking in a rebound in the 28th minute, but Lacey got the equalizer in the 71st on a goal by senior Chad Moore. Yurgel then won it seven minutes later with his second goal of the game and third in the first three Jackson Liberty matches.

Manchester 3, Donovan Catholic 0

Junior Joey Kurak scored four minutes into the match and senior Alex Lopez followed with two goals as the Hawks (2-0, 1-0) took down the Griffins (0-2, 0-2). Kurak assisted one of the two goals by Lopez, while senior Evan Weiner and junior Max Anderson also added an assist apiece.
