Ocean County Tournament

Quarterfinals

(4) Point Boro 2, (5) Toms River South 0

Junior Nick Guzzi singled home the second of two Point Boro runs in the third inning and handled the rest on the mound as the Panthers nipped the Indians to advance to Saturday's OCT semifinal round against the winner of the quarterfinal game between top-seeded Jackson Memorial and No. 9 Toms River East.

Guzzi pitched out of a second-and-third, one-out jam in the top of the second inning by getting one of his five strikeouts, followed by a pop-up. In the sixth, senior Sam Conover and junior Max Rivas picked back-to-back two-out singles against Guzzi, but junior catcher Ryan Jasaitis threw behind Rivas after a 2-2 pitch to Matt Hartshorn and Point Boro threw out Conover at third for the final out of the inning.

Guzzi struck out the final two batters of the game to close out his fifth win of the season.

Both runs in the third against Toms River South senior starter Gabe Driscoll were unearned. Driscoll did not allow a baserunner in any of his other five innings of work.
