Class A North

No. 9 Middletown South 8, No. 1 Manalapan 5

Senior Robby Zega hit a towering go-ahead home run in the fourth inning and a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth - the latter of which put the Eagles ahead for good on their way to a huge win over the Braves.

With two wins over winless Long Branch next week, Middletown South would clinch no worse than a share of the Class A North championship. If the Eagles win those two and Manalapan loses any of its final three division games (two vs. Marlboro, one at Howell), Middletown South would win the division outright.

Chris Lotito came on with the bases loaded and two out in the top of the third and recorded the final out on one pitch. He then struck out seven while walking none over the next four innings, including striking out the side in order in the fourth. The junior right-hander picked up his first win of the season and avenged his lone loss, which came on a walk-off home run by Manalapan's Mike Kuver in the eighth inning of the first meeting between the teams.
